The ones Steeve does tend to see Johnny a bit more out of character. These awkward moments don't usually revolve around a girl, but just sorta happen and he's not sure why. I'm not even sure if I consider them proper cannon with the rest of the stuff.

Ah, that adds up. I'm not as familiar with Steeve's work, but this is a well-done piece, atypical Johnny behavior or no. It's interesting to see him responding that way. Though I guess changing for reasons unknown could be juuuust odd enough to at least give him pause -- even, as seen here, when it doesn't give him paws.

This being some sort of alt!continuity Johnny who's maybe less self-assured than Johnny Prime certainly works well as an explanation.

I've also done kind of a running joke with Steeve's pics that sometimes Johnny transforms at random and made the comparison to a spontaneous erection, so he could just be incredibly embarrassed about it. Again, I don't know if I consider that cannon, but it's kinda funny to me.

Heh, canon or not, it's an amusing analogy and the rationale does the trick. Also a reminder that, while not a great feeling for a trouser tent to take one by surprise, at least it's not as hard to hide as this would be. It's hard not to feel at least a little bad for the guy.

Hm, related: you mentioned he's come to associate getting changed as a sign that things are going well with the object of his affections. I wonder if that might leave him less sure of himself and the situation when he's not "charming" someone who can magick him into something else. Perhaps that makes him think he's frequently rejected by normies or otherwise actually leads his extreme self-assurance not to get in his own way in one particular courtship. Then he starts changing anyway and his typical braggadocious self comes roaring back with a vengeance. "Wow, the universe itself thinks this is meant to be!"

It's not that changing is a sign, it's more like them changing him is a way magical people play hard to get. Because he also reacted the same way to a girl throwing a water bottle at his head in something I wrote earlier. In fact, in that case he thought she was giving him a drink and just threw it too hard. He's really dumb.

Well technically my first TF was from being nothing to being a mouse, and you can see how well that turned out. :P As for being a donkey, it's fun to clop around and be adorable.
