Round 7’s nomination was a very tight fight between two Gold Coast players for the nominations. But in the end, One of them stuck their head above the rest and won the nomination for Round 7. With 22 disposals, 8 marks, 2 goals, 4 behinds and 4 tackles in the Dragons’ 22-point loss to Orange, It is of course, Tobias Rodgers who is this week’s nominee for the Jimmy Newman Medal.

Not much is really known about Tobias' life, but one thing is for sure, he did grow up loving the FAFL. Tobias would only have a single parent for all of his life as his mother would die during childbirth. To help cope with the void left by the loss of his mother, His father would take him to East Sydney games to help him feel better. Due to the young pup’s amazement at the game of Aussie Rules. Tobias would become a fan for life of the game and would strive to become a player at the top level.

After a decent Junior Career at Newtown in the Sydney FAFL competition, Tobias would be drafted by Gold Coast at Pick No. 20 in the 2020 FAFL Draft. Since then, He has become a fixture of the Dragons roster and filled a void that was left by Ryan Whitfield who during the offseason was traded to Orange.

We wish Tobias Rodgers the best with the rest of the season and hopefully long career.
