New rat, the rat that sent his previous owner to hospital when he ripped open the back of her hand.
Since he's been here, he has not shown any aggression at all.
However, he does PLAY extremely roughly. Im suspecting he was taken away from his littermates too early, as most pet shop rats are, and never learned what is an acceptable pressure to bite with.
He is definately playing rather than being aggressive, as he shows NO aggressive body language at all, its all excitement and bounciness. He just needs to learn that only a nibble is acceptable, nothing more.
And hes learning fast. Im using the squeak method and he really gets it. Today, he got all playful and began wrestling with my hand but instead of nipping, he just licked. Total turn around, and a very smart rat.
Soon, he'll go in with my other boys who will carry on his training, as they certainly won't let him play too rough!
There will be vids of him on my youtube soon (oreztar)

His previous owner made an almost 6 hour round trip to bring him to me, because nowhere else wanted anything to do with a supposedly bitey rat. Some offered to put him down, and others who did offer to take him were going to then rehome him on again. She didn't want him passed around from home to home because of his behavour so she knew that if she brought him here, he'd stay here forever.
She was a really nice person, and clearly cared a lot about him, which is a rarity for the owners I usually meet! But he was her first rat (which even she got from someone else who didn't want him either!) and she didn't feel ready to cope with his behaviour.
Which is kinda understandable.

Theres absolutely no difference between dumbos and normal rats, except where their ears are placed. In all other ways, they're identical. A lot of pet shops and crappy breeders try to make out like dumbos are some new type of rat which are really different to normal rats, pets@home used to tell people they lived longer *roll* but they're absolutely the same as any other rat.
