Right, so that hadn’t gone exactly as planned...this was fine. Sprinkles peeked out of the window of the wagon he was in, eyes dancing between the bars, shifting his cuffed hands behind his back. He’d been snagged while pickpocketing, the festivities not having been as much of a cover as he had hoped it would be. He knew he’d be fine - by the time he even got taken back to the slammer, his friends would have bailed him, it had happened before and would absolutely happen again. That said, the walled police wagon was still daunting, and there was always the chance the other wouldn’t find him.
He idly kicked at the wall, sarcastically repeating back the barked order of you stop that!
He waited about twenty minutes before he heard cussing from the cops, and felt the wagon stopping. His ears perked up, the sound of the cops hopping off the front of the wagon and exclaiming about someone laying in the road slapping a grin across his face.
Oh he knew this trick.
He took the opportunity to shuffle closer to the door, and shuffle his legs through his arms so they’d be cuffed in front of him instead of behind, much easier to get them off that way, assuming this was his squad stalling the wagon. He strained his ears, listening for any sign the lock and deadbolt on the back of the wagon were being tampered with-
A heavy metallic thud told him all he needed to know. The bolt quietly but quickly slid, and the door was thrown open, a black, white and rainbow StarShooter greeting him with a grin.
“Alright hurry up.”
“I love you Indra.” Sprinkles said quickly before hopping out of the wagon, lifting his hands for Indra to pry the cuffs open and drop them beside the lock. The two of them sprinted away quickly, back towards the festival, glancing back over their shoulders at the other two they worked with catching up after ducking off the sides of the road, giving up the game that the cops had been tricked.
The four of them ran until they reached the city again, where they ducked and weaved into back alleys, hearts pounding in their chests as they fled from the law, as they always did, though the thrill never got old. Once they were certain they had escaped, they regrouped at the edge of the festivals, watching clowns and jesters perform, and vendors peddle their sweet treats.
“Ok, so let’s try that again, yeah?” Sprinkles suggested with a playful hand sweep towards the crowd. “But this time stick to the middle?”
With an affirmative nod between the lot of them, they melted back into the crowd, Sprinkles opting for playing a distraction instead of doing the swiping, joining hands with a polite looking Sweeper woman with facepaint smeared across her face. He danced with her, laughed with her, all the while distracting her for Indra’s tail to pull the bags from her belt.
When he and the Sweeper parted, he bowed to her before spinning on his heel to locate another dance partner, beaming at them with a joyful sparkle in his eyes.
Oh how he loved parties!
