42 HOURS OF WORK! and so, FRIENDLY COMMENTS WELCOME, CRITIQUES ARE NOT!
pen drawing colored with a mouse in paintshop_pro7... no photoshop filters (as I don't have photoshop!) , just color fills, gradients, and airbrushing (with a few custom brushes).
Long description (I'll understand if you don't read it):
This was drawn to show the difference between the northern kingdom and the middlelands riders of Canid Earth (my anthro story universe)...
WOLF/DEUXCORNE: The Wolves of Dantain are rather thickly built, much like (american) football players. In fact, their simple armor tends to reflect that of padding a player might wear. They'd prefer something simple as they already have thick fur and are well muscled, so don't need to lock themselves in tin cans. They also reserve the decorative armors and clothings for special occasions in royal court. Their steeds always remain decorated, as a matter of pride. Their steeds are Deuxcornes, a doubled horned (the duller gold horns on the forehead are real horns, while the brighter gold is just armor) animal that is more closely related to the (extinct) unicorn rather than the horse. They have the build and temperment more of that of a rhino, and the horns and thick hide to match. Their mode of attack is to plow into things, sharp items pointed at their opponents.
If you're angry that most peices of fiction portray wolves as the "bad guys", don't worry, I am as well. The Wolves of Dantain are not bad, simply misunderstood and portrayed as brutes by others. They've been pushed to the north by other canines (just like in real life) and so have become quite territorial of what little land they have left.
Among themselves, they do have a sense of Knight's honor.
This takes place on the BORDERLANDS, between The North and Middlealnds, where war never ends. You would think that the modernized side would win, but on the Borderlands there are curses placed so that machines of malice instantly break down and rust.
SILVA NOIR /HORSE: first thing you might notice is that Silva is in modern clothing... horse riding for battle is a rare thing where she comes from (The Middlelands), as they've modernized (the only nation to do so). She's more interested in the old ways. You might also notice her wings. It's because she's possesed by a demon which has given her powers over earth (dirt, rocks) and this explains the goggles and the fly mask on her horse... to keep the dirt out of their eyes whne she chooses to use that power (obviously the wolf is unware of the intruders power). But she didn't come to invade... she's one of the very few who would rather negociate... that's why her horse is outfitted for journey, and not battle. She will fight is he has to.
Chesnut, the horse... is almost a normal horse. He is uncharactersticly calm in all situations, however, and has longer/thicker legs than normal. This is because of protection spells placed on him specifically so that she can ride him. Leg strengthening/speed spells and a tolerance spell... (normal horses tend to spook in the presence of demons and the demon-possesed).
Chesnut was also one of my imaginary friends whne I was a little kid... he didn't talk, and I rode him around (I looked like Monty Python's holy grail with my imaginary horse, if you know what I mean).
Luther, the green dragon who is Silva's pet, is an ordinary dragon (about half size here), and is the same vegitarian/small-variety that comes from the tropical island chain of Hawados (as seen in the begginning of the "Volcano" comic).
