Darn... another melancholy story anchored on the "foxes mate for life" myth.
I know it's widely believed, but they don't... they really don't.
Early research made that erroneous conclusion because some (not all) fox breeds formed "preferred breeding pairs" and researchers noted the same male/female couple coming together for years to produce kits.
But foxes are solitary creatures and difficult to track for an entire lifetime and further research has shown that there is a lot of variety in fox breeding patterns and "for life" isn't one of them.
I was hoping her depression was going to be something more unique.
