A Kind of Magic

Well, what do you know... a new traditional "Reptile Cynrik" artwork!!
It's the first traditional piece in 2010!
Since you all know HOW "Reptile" looks like, I've chosen to work with less detail this time. But I've tried to do a more artistic pictures... with an extreme view angle and a very intense light source.
Reptile is finally learning the ways of magic again. In this scene, he's creating some magic flares, which can be used for illumination or in battle. Since he owns a few Cyronite crystals - which are increasing the natural magic within each Reptilian - he's able to cast magic.
He forgot much of his skill during the past years... but now he's ambitious to learn it again! :D

I love the scale detail on th elower half and the way you've done the lighting ^.=.^
Very artistic =3
Due to my lack of time, this is a picture with less background again... :( BUT I guess, it does not change the dramatic and dynamic atmosphere here. At least, I don't want to be called "lazy"..... ^^
Thanks for the comment.
I have to say that Reptile's head looks like a humans head because of the position and the look, perspective and shape of his jaw. He also seems to be watching into another direction instead towards the magic he's casting....
But who the fuck cares? This is just one of those superior pics only artists like you can do!
1) I tend to make it smaller lately and
2) it's getting smaller because of the perspective.
Yes, he looks a little bit "sideways"... BUT since his eyes are on the side of his head, he CAN see his hand here! ^^
Or maybe... the light is blinding him, so he looks away. XD
Anyway, thanks a lot for the comment. *hugs*
On a separate note, it is nice to see that you are still drawing.
And yes, I am NOT "dead". ^^ Just too little time to draw.
If I see anything magical and a miracle of good luck happens I'm blaming it on you
I can feel it coming in the cool morning air right now
You know I meant every word sexy Reppy
Aww your reptilian thanks made me smile a real smile which I'm glad to feel
...oh and FAVE!!
And you're welcome^^
The reflections and the shadow relative detail are just crazy. And you did that only with common technique... omfg,
i love the huge contrast in different shades that you have going. im eager to see what magical abilities he is capable of. ^.=.^
lolz..
1 hour for the rather simple sketch
2 hours for the ink (with MUCH black)
2 hours for colouring (not many colours, anyway)
DARK MAGIC!!
Actually...wait...i think i did a similar project way back in the roarin' 20s. Just not as dramatic...
I assume when you worked on this you did a sort of...uhm
"overlaying" technique for each medium?
As a matter of fact, it's so easy to draw with white paint or colour pencil on black paper!!!!! ^^
Really like that, not a great deal I can say that isn't repetition of other comments already to be honest!
You've managed to put a real feeling of depth into the image with the perspective and lighting - almost seems that you've taken a snapshot from a movie camera in the middle of a very dramatic pan past him to focus on both the magic and who's using it.
Very well done, and thanks for sharing.
I'm glad you like it and that the desired expression has been successfully ... expressed. XD
You're right: most of the expression and dynamics comes from the pose and contrast.
In fact, this was SUPPOSED to be more "artistic", yeah. And having me to pose as body reference... worked out well. XD Well, *cough* I'm not that strong. ;) But that's not the point. It helped well and I love the result.
Glad you like it, too.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY AND ALL THE BEST TO YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hehehe, yeah... a friend of me told me some time ago. ^^ So, I wish you all the best and hope you enjoy your day! I wish you health, luck, success and may all your dreams come true.
Take care - RC
Yeah, I guess "traditional media" will always be my first and best choice.

7)Am I seeing a lump on Reptiles lower tail part? wonder what it is
I'm glad the wallpaper works out for you.
Eh... what "lump"? XD No, that is just a bulging part of his tail horn plates. Downside. ^^
That is all.
XD
