So I said I would do a fullbody and it turned into a ref. This is mostly for me tho so I can draw her more xD

So if you haven’t realized already, this is my fan redesign of Saphira from the inheritance cycle (or Eragon). Her design is obviously my own interpretation of her since she is different in the movie and the books. Her form is very much inspired by the movie design but since I’ve started to read the books again I fell in love with book Saphira so why not combine the two designs I love so much together? She is an nice blend of her book scales and movie feathers, her body covered in scales which morph into softer feather-like scales that blend more and more into her feathers that go from the top of her head, along her spine to where her tail base is. From there spines run along to tail until the tip which morphs back into feathers. The mix of scales and feathers is seamless, meaning there is no hard “boundary” between them. Basically the scales become more flexible and feather-like the further towards her spine until it becomes purely feathers (I tried to make a demonstration of this with color on the lower right of the ref). Her wings are inspired by movie Saphira’s wings because I really liked how they looked. They seem like a sort of mix of membrane and feathers, her feathers just completely cover the membrane. I would say the membrane that she has as a hatchling would slowly recede as her feathers come in. The membrane would end at about where second layer of feathers are, which would explain why she would have long bony spikes/fingers visible along the underside of her wings with a lack of membrane after the second feather layer. Her color pallet is much more vibrant than movie Saphira because book Saphira is supposed to be the color of her egg which was a sapphire color with lighter veins. Her eyes in the book are also mentioned to be an “icy blue” as a child and more sapphire as she matured a bit more. I went with a mix between the icy blue and bright sapphire because I personally like the icy blue,,, but that’s just my preference xD her body is flexible and cat like in reference to the book describing her as more cat-like (and just dragons in general are cat-like, yay! :D). She has book Saphira’s personality (even though movie Saphira has a very similar, if not the same, personality)

I’ll just say the first design I did for the 6 fanarts was more of my interpretation of movie Saphira,, whereas this is my actual design for her since i now feel the need to mix my favorite aspects of both her designs to make the idea design of her for me :>
