Thing I like: Limitations
Apto: Country life
It's been a pretty self-indulgent month. Scenarios like the ones I've been drawing are fun, but can get old without limitations, removal of power, obstacles to overcome. Gotta have stuff like that in order to have stories that go anywhere! What better conflict than the desire to be myself, but also fit in and not make waves? Write what you know after all.
I grew up in, still call home, and still love a place that leans conservative in many senses. I have a deep respect for my upbringing. But as I'm sure everyone reading this knows, it's tough to be weird in such a place. I've been weird all my life. I was so oblivious to what "normal" was and how to be it. Got picked on some, but I managed to become normal enough for the stuff that mattered. People here tend to be nice, even when I show them my weirder side.
I feel equally at home and welcomed in internet furryland, meeting people wearing all kinds of interesting character masks. But here too, I feel equally alienated. Everything moves a mile a minute and anyone who doesn't keep pace with all the cultural shifts is left behind.
Hex and I both bend way too easily to social pressure in either direction. I hope one day that my two homes will find more than just parallel existence, but peace with one another, and I won't feel so torn between them.
