Akita head (re-do)
The goal of the redo project was to keep the mask as an Akita, but give him a slightly different (stern) expression. Going from Angry to Stern was a natural progression, and hopefully I did a reasonably ok job at renovating the mask.
This costume now belongs to a new owner,
carson10us
it will be delivered to him in April.
"Mangle" the character, however, was not sold but this costume was. As a result we wanted to change it enough to be a different enough character.
The mask was originally built April 2008 out of an all-foam base. The eyes have been redone to be out of plastic bowl construction with buckrum pupils/irises and vinyl eyelids (former construction was plastic bowls with chiffon pupils and painted on irises). The markings have been blended together with a drybrush technique (painted on the fur using a round paintbrush) and not with an airbrush.

The whiskers shown are from what was the part of a plastic fiber optic novelty lamp, (example pic: http://www.noveltieswholesale.com/f.....fiberlamp2.jpg ) I just cut them off the base, trimmed them to length, put a dab of hot glue on them and stuck them into the base of the fur, pinching the fur together. I trimmed them up a bit more to even them out.
Though you can also use fishing line (thinner whiskers) or weedwhip line (thicker whiskers), my favorite whisker material is definitely the plastic fibers from those silly lamps.

Its actually just Acrylic paint, drybrushed on. No water added with drybrushing, just put on a small bit on a round brush, and keep stroking the brush to spread and blend the paint into the fur and the undercoat. The "dryer" the brush the lighter the coat of paint, the "wetter" the brush, the heavier the paint.
thank you so much for the tutorials that you have on your site
