My girlfriend has a collection of swords she keeps in her house. Some are for show, since she teaches Okinawan martial arts. She has a few antique Japanese swords. The pride of her collection, though, is her . She has the the Katana long sword, a Wakizashi short sword (together they are called Daishō) and a Tanto dagger, I guess is the best description. She ordered them custom made from a very old house in Japan. It took almost six years to make them. A friend who collects samurai swords professionally has appraised them and says that they are better than any modern-era swords he has ever seen.

That's really cool. I've had the chance to test out some sharp blades made by a very talented sword smith, very satisfying. ^^
