I missed the shuttle start in february by a day ARGH, wish I could've since there won't be any anymore when I go back to the U.S. :(

After Obama proposed canceling Constellation, the future of US Human Spaceflight has been up in the air. NASA's future is being hammered out in Congress right now, with a slim possibility of an extension to the Shuttle Program. Who knows, keep your fingers crossed and it might happen.

I sure hope the shuttle program keeps operating, since rockets with capsules are totally lame :/

Unfortunately the cost and safety margins of flying the shuttles is getting prohibitive and untenable. The generation of engineers that built it are retired, and the majority of the replaceable spare parts have not been fabricated in over 20 years, and the tooling for that has been scrapped. Some of the installed parts are flying on double their rated lifespans, with a "provisional" safety rating. The FAA wouldn't let a paying passenger anywhere near an airliner that was so clapped out.

On the bright side, one of the two programs that got NASA seed money for the CCD program(commercial crew development) Is SpaceDev, whose DreamChaser http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dream_.....8spacecraft%29 vehicle is a rebirth of the mid 1980s Nasa developed HL-20 Mini Space shuttle, which was canceled due to budgetary reasons.

Congress has so far killed 4 attempts at building mini shuttles, (X-20 Dynasoar, HL-10, HL-20, and X-38CRV) so Maybe just maybe this time we'll get one.
