Episode 9: Sky Fortress! Part 2!
The Archives of the King!
[Devil May Cry 1 OST-Track 35]
Tyson slowly walks through the ancient hallways of the Sky Fortress as he slowly begins to hear a strange yet soothing lullaby come from a room. It was wide and spacious, there were several pad like objects lining all around the walls, “Cynder, are you getting this!?”
Back at the ship, “I don’t believe it! Those are nests! Dragon nests!”
“What, dragon nests?! But why here?” Tyson said.
“I have no idea, perhaps there once used to be dragons here on Earth?” Cynder said. An image flashes in Tyson’s mind, a dragoness setting an egg on a nest; all the other nests have eggs in them. Tyson continues on down the hallway and comes to a huge doorway, when he opens the doors he’s amazed to find an even bigger chamber with an even bigger nest!
“Cynder, look at the size of it! Huh, there’s a second smaller nest in the middle. Looks like adult dragons must have put their egg in the center nest and slept curled around it. As if to guard it while they slept…
“That’s what dragon parents do when they have eggs; they build a nest within a nest and sleep around it until it hatches. They protect their hatchling with their lives…” Cynder explained. The image of two HUGE dragons lying to sleep in the nest with a single purple egg in the center nest appears in his head.
“Wait, Cynder, this place looks like a castle, right? So maybe this is a part of the King’s castle, that room back there, it was a hatchery! And this room…two dragons and their egg slept here…but who they were…I have no idea…but I feel like I’m at home?” Tyson said.
“If that’s true then, what’s a part of the King’s castle doing here on Earth? And how?” Cynder asked. Tyson continued on into what looked like a library, unknowingly stepping on a special pad which glowed to life!
A strange console rose out of the floor as several strange columns appeared; a blue light stretched out from each of them and formed what looked to be a dragoness…
“I welcome your arrival, heir of the throne.” She said in an electric like voice.
“Wait, did you call me an ‘heir’? To…what? Who are you?” Tyson asked.
“If you do not know then I am not allowed to tell you. I have no name, I was nearly lost before I even hatched but I was spared death before life by the King. He had made me into his living archive.”
“Tyson, what is that?” Cynder said.
“I haven’t the slightest clue but she’s like a computer! A dragon computer, literally!” Tyson said.
“Wait, SHE? What’s going on up there?” Cynder yelled.
“Cynder it’s not like that! This dragoness is actually a computer; she’s been here this whole time since the King. Maybe I might be able to find something about the King and who was responsible for destroying your world, but I’m going to have to go radio silent for a while. I’ll call you back when I’m finished. *blip* Okay…can you tell me about the King?” Tyson said.
“I am afraid I am unable to tell you his name, he himself removed that information. But I can tell you about him; He was what all kings should be like: fair, just, kind and compassionate, caring towards others instead of himself, a true benevolent ruler. He himself hailed from less than royal beginnings, being lost as an egg in a storm he was raised as an adopted son of a cheetah warrior, the ancestor of the cheetah warrior Hunter, but then came the time that the young Prince discover his true origins. He and his adoptive father set off for the dragon city of WarFang, it was there that the Prince’s mother and father, the King and Queen saw him and the marks of a royal dragon on his wings. The cheetah was accused of taking the Prince but he himself stood in the way of the ones who were trying to harm his second father. From that day forth, the cheetah warrior remained in WarFang and became the both the Prince’s mentor.”
“Wow…so he grew up as a country dragon and that’s how he learned to be so kind to everyone. Wait, ‘both’? You mean there was a second prince?” Tyson said.
“Yes but the information about him was removed entirely.”
“Huh…someone doesn’t want me to find the whole story…alright then, can you tell me about the dragon who called himself the Dark Master?” Tyson asked.
“I’m sorry but the information seems to have been damaged when this portion of the castle was transported here to this world but there is some of it still intact. The War of Light and Darkness…turning point…brothers…prophecy…King and Malefor fought for what seemed ages. Their battle spanning to another world called Earth…lost…fragment…Malefor… They returned to our world for the final blow that would end the war, the King defeated Malefor but Malefor had gravely injured the King. With what seemed to be the last of his strength, the King along with the ancestors, sealed Malefor away within the Convexity and banished his followers to the UnderRealm. When all was said and done, the King had vanished, and all thought that the last of the purple dragons had been lost until the dragon named Spyro came to be. The dragon that is part of you. The sword you wield is the claw of the King himself, broken off by Malefor’s final attack.”
“Wow, the king was here on Earth, but the info must be so damaged that you must not be able to tell exactly when the King and Malefor ended up here when they fought. (Turning point…brothers? What could that mean?) Can you tell me who or what was responsible for the destruction of the dragon’s home world?” Tyson said.
“Our world has been destroyed? …I’m afraid I don’t have that information. I was sent here to Earth after the war had finally ended.”
“Well, so much for that idea…hey, you’ve been here a while so what can you tell me about who’s behind the whole disasters happening right now and what is he looking for?” Tyson asks.
“I think he is searching for the Mas…” *BOOM*, an explosion rocks the fortress when at the same time the SS GALE was under attack as well!
“Cynder, what in SAM HILL is going on out there!?” Tyson yells through the COM link. A huge dragon with his wings connected to his arms streaks across the bridge.
“No…that’s a Wyvern-type dragon! But they’re supposed to be extinct… Gah, Tyson the ships under attack and the enemy is heading right for the castle, get outta there!” Cynder screams.
“C’mon we gotta scram! Huh, hey come on, we gotta go!” Tyson yells.
“I’m sorry, but I can never leave. I can’t move my body in any way.” A large frozen capsule rises up out of the floor and in that capsule is a light blue dragoness.
“You mean…that’s your body?” Tyson gasped.
“Yes…I requested it so. Perhaps one day there will come a cure to my affliction…but I can only hope.”
“Then let me get your body out of here! With doctors and all kinds of medical procedures there’s definitely a cure for you out there.” Tyson said.
“You would willingly aid someone who has been like this for centuries…even if there is no cure?”
“Of course, but we’ll never know unless we try! There is a will and there is a way and I’m gonna find that way for you! I promise! But first things first…” Tyson walked to the console and connected a special 5000 gig flashdrive that he made if he needed to download a lot of datafiles and it works for the digital dragoness.
“What are you doing?”
“Don’t worry, I’m transferring you into a portable storage device so I can get your mind that’s in this computer safely out of here and get your body out next.” The fortress rocked even more violently than before and the connection was severed and a large chunk of debris fell down and destroyed the console but he still managed to download about half of the files in the King’s archives and the dragoness too. Tyson climbed over the debris and was about to take her body when the ceiling came crashing down with the wyvern dragon crashing hard ON TOP OF HER BODY! The floor beneath him fell away and with it the dragoness’s body as he opened his wings and hovered there.
“So you’re the little half dragon runt that my boss wants me to kill. The name’s Argius, and I’m your fastest killer to ever live…HUH?!”

Tyson held up the drive that had the dragoness in it and somehow teleported it to Cynder and told her with telepathy to hold it. Energy began to spark around Tyson, dark energy…when Argius attacked him he simply caught it with his bare hand! Tyson looks up as he Dragon Triggers with such destructive force that it blew off the central tower and sent Argius wheeling through the air. Hovering in a black cloud was Tyson but now he had…Dark Dragon Triggered, Spyro’s dark form from when he fought Gaul. He blasted forward with such tremendous ferocity that the sonic boom shattered the windows of the ship! He and Argius zoomed across the sky, moving so fast they almost turned in streaks of energy, colliding faster than the eye can see! Argius appeared in front of the castle as Dark Tyson roared toward him with massive claws, Argius moved out of the way but Tyson just tore right through the castle and almost ripped it in half!
“RRAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!” Tyson roared as he erupted out of the walls and smashed the machine on Argius’s back to scrap metal and released the pure white orb from inside the machine as Cynder flies by and catches it. They were moving faster than the eye can see now; the shockwaves of their impacts blew apart the clouds. A loud smash sent Argius spinning into the castle as Dark Tyson’s mouth begin to glow and Cynder knew what he was about to do, the Dark Fury Attack! If he launches it the blast wave won’t just destroy Argius, it’ll destroy the SS GALE and everybody anywhere near here too!
The dark light begins to intensify around his mouth when Cynder flies in front of him in the direct line of fire, “Tyson, snap out of it!” But he still continues to charge energy and was about to unleash it all when Cynder screamed at the top of her lungs, “TYSON!!!” Her voice echoed in his head and just like that *twang* the black light disappeared from his mouth and the dark aura faded away as he returned to his normal Dragon Trigger form.
“Uhh…Cynder? Wha…what happened?” Tyson doesn’t remember anything about what just happened. As he takes the pure white Core Orb in his hands Argius charges but begins to slow down almost instantly.
“Wise in all things, you watch over all from beginning to end, with the knowledge of 1000 years you are…the Chronicler.” The light split into two separate orbs and settled on his fists and became bladed knuckle busters and the symbol of an hourglass appeared on his chest. The knuckle buster’s blades looked like white wings that flowed downward on his knuckles, as he punched the slashes from the blades formed gashes of distorted time that imploded. The new Dragon Arm changed his appearance into a pure white dragon with the same banners as the Chronicler and the same crystal around his neck, he now a sky blue blindfold covering his eyes but he could still see somehow. He suddenly disappeared as a large pocket of distorted time expanded around Argius, time slowed to a standstill as Tyson appeared and disappeared with blinding speed all around Argius, punching and slashing before with one single powerful right hook cut right though Argius but not literally cutting him in half but created a sliced gash of air that imploded on top of him! His dark body exploding apart into a dark mist he screamed one last thing, “I don’t want to go back to the UNDERREALM!!!!!!!!!” *BOOM*
The battle was over but then the Sky Fortress was falling, Tyson tried to catch up to it to try and stop it from falling but it was too late, the Sky Fortress had crashed into the ocean.

Back on solid ground Tyson stood away from everyone else at the edge of a cliff, watching what remained of the Sky Fortress and possibly the computer dragoness’s body when the Chronicler appeared from a pocket of time behind him. Tyson clenched his fists and dropped to his knees and started punching the ground and screaming, “RRAAAAHHHHHH!!! AAAAHHHHHH!!!!” He punched so hard the cliff face broke apart and fell to the waters below. He kept punching until both his fists were raw and bloody but he just kept on until Cynder came up and pulled him to his feet.
“Tyson, what happened?” she asked but to was still distraught.
“I…I…failed…I couldn’t…save her body…” he cried.
“Who’s body, what are you talking about?” she asked.
“He’s talking about my body. Still trapped in the Fortress when it fell.” The dragoness that was in the flashdrive had appeared on Tyson’s shoulder as a tiny hologram.
“I’m sorry…I couldn’t keep my promise to you…” Tyson cried.
“There is nothing for you to be sorry about, you still saved my life and perhaps my body is still out there. Where there’s a will there’s a way, right?” Tyson explained the whole thing to everyone about what happened inside the fortress.
“Whoa, so that’s why you were so broken up? Well then, count on me and my crew, we’ll help find your body and we’ll bring it back personally!” Sgt. Byrd shouted as the whole entire crew of the SS Gale howled in agreement.
“All of you would help me, a total stranger?”
“You and I are friends, and in turn my friends are your friends, my family is your family. That’s how having friends works.” Tyson sniffled.
“I never had friends…or a family. I feel……happy. For the first time after being alone for so long I feel happy, thank you Tyson, Cynder, and everyone else thank you.”
“So what is your name?” Cynder asked.
“I don’t have one…”
“……How about Digit?” Tyson asked.
“Digit…I…like it!” Digit wheeled around in her hologram.
“I may not have been able to save your real body but when we get home I’ll make you a special body.” Tyson said as he perked up.
“Make me a body?” Digit asked.
“With today’s tech I’ll be able to build you a robotic body but it won’t be out of cold steel, you’ll have all the senses, you’ll be able to feel, smell, taste, everything! Because I did manage to catch a scrape of a scale and with that a friend of mine can help me make a body for you. And when we find your real body I’ll be able to fulfill my promise and find a cure for you.” Tyson said.
“Thank you, Tyson, you would be perfect as a new King, you’re just so much like him!” Digit said.
“Digit, was there anyone else that came to Sky Fortress, anyone before me?” Tyson asked.
“I’m sorry no one else was there, and there was no one else before you.” Digit said.
“Another dead end, I’ll find him one day…” Tyson said as Digit went back into the drive and Cynder wriggled in close to him and put his arm over her shoulders and laid her left arm across his chest and drifted to sleep as the quiet hum of the wind flowed off the hull of the ship. Tyson put his right hand on her hand; Cynder wriggled her head closer to his as they both drifted off to sleep.
“Although our world is gone the stories of those who show bravery in the heat of battle but never throw away feelings such as love, kindness, sadness, sorrow, joy, and such feelings are what make us truly alive. Their story is far from concluded, but as long as they keep what is truly meaningful in their hearts such as their love, they will make their story a grand one. My old friend…are you still watching from the stars like you said? Your tale you began so long ago continues to this day, and I intend to see it play out to the very end.” –Chronicler.

Back on solid ground Tyson stood away from everyone else at the edge of a cliff, watching what remained of the Sky Fortress and possibly the computer dragoness’s body when the Chronicler appeared from a pocket of time behind him. Tyson clenched his fists and dropped to his knees and started punching the ground and screaming, “RRAAAAHHHHHH!!! AAAAHHHHHH!!!!” He punched so hard the cliff face broke apart and fell to the waters below. He kept punching until both his fists were raw and bloody but he just kept on until Cynder came up and pulled him to his feet.
“Tyson, what happened?” she asked but to was still distraught.
“I…I…failed…I couldn’t…save her body…” he cried.
“Who’s body, what are you talking about?” she asked.
“He’s talking about my body. Still trapped in the Fortress when it fell.” The dragoness that was in the flashdrive had appeared on Tyson’s shoulder as a tiny hologram.
“I’m sorry…I couldn’t keep my promise to you…” Tyson cried.
“There is nothing for you to be sorry about, you still saved my life and perhaps my body is still out there. Where there’s a will there’s a way, right?” Tyson explained the whole thing to everyone about what happened inside the fortress.
“Whoa, so that’s why you were so broken up? Well then, count on me and my crew, we’ll help find your body and we’ll bring it back personally!” Sgt. Byrd shouted as the whole entire crew of the SS Gale howled in agreement.
“All of you would help me, a total stranger?”
“You and I are friends, and in turn my friends are your friends, my family is your family. That’s how having friends works.” Tyson sniffled.
“I never had friends…or a family. I feel……happy. For the first time after being alone for so long I feel happy, thank you Tyson, Cynder, and everyone else thank you.”
“So what is your name?” Cynder asked.
“I don’t have one…”
“……How about Digit?” Tyson asked.
“Digit…I…like it!” Digit wheeled around in her hologram.
“I may not have been able to save your real body but when we get home I’ll make you a special body.” Tyson said as he perked up.
“Make me a body?” Digit asked.
“With today’s tech I’ll be able to build you a robotic body but it won’t be out of cold steel, you’ll have all the senses, you’ll be able to feel, smell, taste, everything! Because I did manage to catch a scrape of a scale and with that a friend of mine can help me make a body for you. And when we find your real body I’ll be able to fulfill my promise and find a cure for you.” Tyson said.
“Thank you, Tyson, you would be perfect as a new King, you’re just so much like him!” Digit said.
“Digit, was there anyone else that came to Sky Fortress, anyone before me?” Tyson asked.
“I’m sorry no one else was there, and there was no one else before you.” Digit said.
“Another dead end, I’ll find him one day…” Tyson said as Digit went back into the drive and Cynder wriggled in close to him and put his arm over her shoulders and laid her left arm across his chest and drifted to sleep as the quiet hum of the wind flowed off the hull of the ship. Tyson put his right hand on her hand; Cynder wriggled her head closer to his as they both drifted off to sleep.
“Although our world is gone the stories of those who show bravery in the heat of battle but never throw away feelings such as love, kindness, sadness, sorrow, joy, and such feelings are what make us truly alive. Their story is far from concluded, but as long as they keep what is truly meaningful in their hearts such as their love, they will make their story a grand one. My old friend…are you still watching from the stars like you said? Your tale you began so long ago continues to this day, and I intend to see it play out to the very end.” –Chronicler.
