This here is the painting I was talking about before! God I haven't done something so detailed in a long time, it was quite refreshing despite taking weeks to do.

This creature here is a concept I've been developing for one of my art classes. They're a folklore style Fae known as the 'Notadeer'. The concept is that they glamour themselves as regular deer to approach unsuspecting travelers within their territories. They then proceed to interact within this form, following the 'rules' of their particular game. As soon as said traveler refers to the Notadeer as a 'deer', 'doe', 'stag', or 'faun' in any capacity, the Notadeer then has all magikal right to devour them. Mostly whole, unless they're particularly cruel. Even if the human refers to the Notadeer as a deer in conversation outside of their preliminary meeting, the Notadeer it will hunt down that person relentlessly.
The only way to prevent them from doing so is to refer to them as 'not a deer' during said first interaction. At this point, they have officially 'lost' to their wordplay, and will usually stomp away in frustration. Some don't choose to follow their rules however, so it's best to be polite when acknowledging their true identities.
If you happened to have called one a deer...well...you've lost the game! There's not much that can be done for you now.
