Hmm... your taking your first steps in the world of shading I see. Well first thing first shading ins nothing without highlights, so I'll stress this first identify the light source in the picture. Since in the current form the light source is a bit hard to identify. For example if the light is coming from the top right the left leg should be a bit darker since it's behind the right leg a bit, but if it comes from the top left the right leg should be darker about the right side of the shin. It's a bit hard to explain shading so I'll show you next time I see you, and another tip it's always good to practice shading in Black and White first before going to color.
Overall you did a good job for your first attempt on this particular picture since you do seem to have a good idea where to go.
