Arc Mantle reference sheet
I've gone years without a proper ref for the zappy powers some of my pups have (let alone coming up with an actual name for said powers), so since I've been riding a non-sexy creative fantasy wave lately, why not? We're ridin' that lore train now, boys :B choo chooo
Some other fun facts that I didn't have enough space for:
- Every sentient being of hominid-level intelligence on Maera have traces of Ember, an ancient magical energy source, found within them. In very rare instances, certain events may trigger an individual to begin producing a high volume of Ember, leading to an aura, and eventually an Arc Mantle.
- Reckless use of an Arc Mantle can lead to Ember depletion, the telltale signs of which are a fading aura and steam rising from the user's skin. Depletion progresses from fatigue, to muscle paralysis and agonizing pain, to organ failure, and soon after, death.
- The rate of Arc Mantle emergence amongst Maeran populations seems to correlate with the ebb and flow of otherworldly beings on Maera, such as Bael. Scholars relate the phenomenon to that of an immune response on an almost planet-wide scale. The "Outsider" entities can be thought of as pathogens, with the Ember resurgence acting as the immune system. The link hasn't been fully established, but is generally accepted to be true.
- More complex and potent forms of Arc Mantle exist; the above pictured is only a "juvenile" state.
