A lot depends on the maker and the blend of pure latex and synthetic material used for the most part std latex tend to stretch out and become somewhat softer than jewel tone colors, in general the more pure the latex used in the manufacturing process the softer and stretchy the balloon will be .
I get my giant balloons from this supplier ,Balloons Direct has a very durable large chloroprene balloons in various sizes they are rather tough that is what I use to sit on and lay on.You can also google chloroprene balloons and find other places to purchase them from as well.
It is a lot tougher and more durable than regular latex if you plan to sit on a balloon and be raised several feet of the floor you want something that is extra strong and wont fail causing you to fall and possibly suffer an injury ,basically the material is a lot more reliable especially when it comes to reuse.hope this answers your questions.
Yes I do it all the time! I also made an mouth piece extension with a check valve in it so I can make it look more natural ,like the costume head is blowing the balloon up without forcing the mouth open and the check valve makes it a lot easier for me to put on a good show even when inflating rather large balloons.
That's an impressive pic, good thing you didn't scare the people to death with the possible accidental option of a pop, must have been quite the show for all involved, you would have had this Uni running for cover with how that looked.
