She requested a Horse and Eagle.. but she also included one concept to be included in the design "dancers".
I ran with that idea; becuase if there is anything that isn't depicted enough in the North Wets Pacific style, is the concept of the Dancers themselves in the style.
I had a great deal of fun with this one. No doubt it will develop into a series of designs, because I am loving what I can do with it!
The originals were on display and for sale at the Round Dance on Feb 27th, at the Native Canadian Center in Toronto.
Size: both are 8.5" x 11"
Medium: Acrylics
Price: $150 for each original

I have to admit I was never really that inspired by this kind of art style until recently. I am really enjoying these types of uploads you are sharing with everyone and it's definitely peaking my interest to do some research.
The colours and shapes are very bold and you have really captured the movement very well :3

The North West Pacific Style is like any other ethnic style that demands a proper schooling and background in the appropriate Aboriginal Culture in order to really held decipher and explain that content of the image. So many get pulled in by the concept that it's "Native American and therefor super spiritual and magical" when in truth it's deeply rooted in their culture and ethnic heritages. The ONLY reason I have the capacity to make work this culturally accurate and interesting is becuase I can convey the cultural information, and therefore draw in the audience with fact and less fiction. I am glad that people are recognizing this, and are making a good connection with my work- I can only hope to help people learn more about the fact and fiction of Aboriginal Culture!
Thats actually really interesting, hence why I do want to learn more. I have been wanting to find books that might you know give me a better idea of their culture and such. But so many books are spiritual self-help modern stuff which kind of makes my skin crawl sometimes ><
David is hoping to drag me down to the place that you work at in Toronto soon as I keep bugging him about it. Because I am from the UK I am completely clueless about this kind of stuff so I would like to broaden my knowledge a little bit. SO its small, but a start! And as always look forward to more of your uploads :3 as they really are inspiring :3

You won't find any books- well, none that are reliable. Like you said, most of the books boil down to new age culture, not aboriginal culture. These cultures are so misinterpreted, and have been snowballing from bad misinterpretation since the first documentation of their culture, that no book can actually be "deemed" accurate. There is a prominent aboriginal comedian that put it best when he said "I took Aboriginal Studies in University. Only Indian to ever to fail, I got a C+... I guess I should have copied of that Asian girl next to me." It's sad that most of the university courses out there have no real insight to a culture that still exists and that can be studied- but the demands of said culture are so great, that it's just "easier" to stick to what we have, and what we WANT them to be.
It would be great if you could come on down! We are located at 16 Spadina Rd! Just make sure you observe some proper etiquette when coming in. We will teach you what you need to know!

Omg I never realized it was that bad, thats actually really damn terrible. I'm surprised there hasn't been more uproar about it.
And oh god now I'm nervous >< I always try to be polite and follow certain etiquette but I always screw up some where >< but I'll do my best! I have no idea when we'll get the chance to pop in, but hopefully before the summer seriously hits.
