Most of Walt Kelly's Pogo panels are pretty far shots, showing whole or nearly-whole bodies from afar. This is one of the relatively rare close-up views of Seminole Sam, with a focus tight enough on him that you can, in the original, even see the fur above his eyes. So that seemed like a good scene to draw. I think the best part of this is the light reflection on Sam's leather jacket, which was done the old-fashioned way of flood-filling black and then erasing short streaks. I still struggle to find a pen weight that I like.
