For Ampris. Hero, champion, savior.
A little tribute for Alien Chronicles by Deborah Chester. Spoilers I guess. This is the last scene of the third and final book.
It's basically a Spartacus story set in space. With furries. Space cats and space dogs are enslaved by space lizards, a battle of revolution ensues. It's very loosely related to Star Wars, technically set in the same universe, but you wouldn't know that from reading it. No force powers or droids or any of that Empire nonsense.
This here is Elrabin the Kelth (a dog-like species), burying his dearest friend and liberator of their people, Ampris the Aaroun (cat-like species). I should draw Ampris as well, she's probably one of the most kickass female protagonists that ever kicked ass. Also the book's antagonist, the tyrannical Queen Antoinette-like lizard ruler Israi, she is a prime example of how to do a villain right. You LOVE hating Israi. You root for her to crash and burn and see Ampris plant a deserved foot up her butt.
Gosh every single character, good and bad is fantastic and memorable. I'm gonna miss these books...

Nice to see someone else who remembers the Alien Chronicles! I came across the books a few years ago, and they were the first ones in a while to really capture my imagination. They encouraged me to get into writing myself, in fact.
This is quite a nice piece. Captures perhaps the most emotionally devastating moments of the story in a way that I think seems suitable for Elrabin.
