Here’s a screen crossposted from Patreon of the current battle system used for the game! It also shows off some characters that haven’t been revealed yet so BONUS. Here’s how it breaks down:
*Standard foreground Dragon Quest/Earthbound battle sequence with enemies in the background. Enemies are non-animated right now but with additional backer funding I hope to change that!
*In lieu of large numbered MP/magic points I’m going with a semi-simplified “Star System” where what would be MP is replaced with a 1-5 point skill cost. The weakest skills cost 1 Star while the most expensive costs 4-5. There’s more to it but I’ll leave it at that for now!
* The Final Fantasy ATB (active time battle) will be used to process turns, so speed will play a large roll in determining how often a character acts.
*There’s still some leftover RPG maker assets in the screenshot, but those are all being shifted out as work continues. For now though just ignore them ^^;
*Finally what’s not featured in this screenshot is the interactive moments in battle. This large sand worm for instance may have an attack prompting a text based choice for you to make which will determine special effects like buffs/debuff or whether you avoid the attack all together. Party members may be removed/added or even have unique responses of their own depending on if you have them during the fight as well!
