I have a small hole too, but I've got all new lines. I might have to get new thimbles and shackles for the halyards though. Watch out for those, they're small but they add up. A racing technique I learned in sailing class is when you're sailing in light winds. You throw a spare pin or shackle into the other boat's sails and the whole crew looks up and tries to figure out where it came from. Do you have all your safety equipment yet? I don't have any, but I decided that would be a thing to worry about later. Mine's dirty too, but nothing a trip to the car wash can't handle. But first I need a hitch for my jeep. And I don't even have it registered yet. just taking it one paycheck at a time. :)

well we are still learning the basics, and we slowly making lists of what we need, need to do, and who to hire to help. i am going back out this week to take photos all over for estimates and everything else lol. i need to register this week will see lol, also have to get the car for this state lol.
How far away do you live from her? There are always trade offs in life at sea, but that's why I wanted a smaller boat. I can put it more places. On the other hand, on a larger boat you can spend all weekend and then some on the water. Have you worked out her theoretical hull speed? I'm a sailing theory nerd, but you can always tell me to shut up if I'm bothering you. It's just nice to talk to someone who thinks sheets are things you put on the bed. :P
I am enjoying the conversation allot, I live about 55 miles from the marina. Sadly I am on a lake, and the speed I think we will see on a good day, if we are lucky, will be 6 knots. I am going back this week to start on the inside, after I take all the cushions and the binimi sun cover to the upholestry shop, I am going to freshen the wood with teak oil.
Good. I think there should be a furry sailing club. ^_^ I think a club would be advantageous to join, but all social events here are very snooty. That's a good haul. It could always be shorter I'm sure. The ocean is the best but I have to sail on lakes as well. Most of them around here are either private or invested with summer dinks. But I want to check out a few nice ones that don't allow motor boats. 6 knots is a good cruising speed. I calculated the harpoon to be around 5. Just practice with the cunningham and traveler and all those. ^_^ I have to re finish all the teak on my boat. But it's not a lot. A good afternoon's work. This will sound like a weird question, but ho does she smell?
There is a yacht club at the marina, and host monthly regattas, I hope to join but I don't think I will mingle well lol. I wish I lived near the ocean, sadly tn is land locked lol. Mostly a smell of musty age, not been used in a long time and needs to be freshened and renewed
I probably wouldn't attend any meetings or anything either. Although, sailing is one of the only activities where people of vastly different lifestyles can hang out and everyone is having a good time, at least from my experience. I think a flotilla would be kind of fun, but on the other side of that coin, when it's just you sailing you can find our own little anchorage and be alone. I think racing would be exciting, but only for fun like among friends. PA is land locked too for the most part. Where I am, lake Erie is too far. I just followed the Delaware river to get to NJ today. A few more hours, and we would run into salt water. But... it's New Jersey. |3
AAAAAAAA NNNNNNUUUUUUUUUUUUUU not the New Jersey, I remember staying there once lol. Most the people I met on the dock the other day were nice, and I keep trying to hit on the waiter in the restaurant that looks over the marina. I will make him mine lol, my fear is that someone will say something to me about being there. I have a bit of a short temper and though my little boat doesn't look like much I am proud of her and want to make her look the best I can. The goal currently is to take the Spring, clean fix it all, then this Summer learn to sail and just have a fun filled time on her.
I haven't met a sailor who gave off negative vibes yet. Power boaters yes, but they are essentially landlubbers with big fuel bills anyway. If you read your text books, they all say local knowledge is indispensable, so take the good with the bad. You will probably get a lot of flak for owning a hunter, but I see them all the time. :) Are you going to take any ASA classes? If you have the money I'd recommend Fairwind Sailing School. The organization is lacking, but I haven't been disappointed with what I got out of their classes. Especially if you get Capt. Francis. Best teacher I ever had. I got him both weeks I went it was awesome. I think that's every sailor's goal, and I believe we will. :)
