This is a pretty decent picture of Drifter.
He looks just a little terse here, but he's really not upset about anything. It's more that it was the middle of the day, hot as blazes - typical FL summer day - and he was trying to decide if he wanted to get up and come over to me so I'd pet him - he has me trained so well! - or just stay there and let me take his picture. In the end, it was a little of both, as he stayed there long enough for me to get a few shots, but still got up and came over so I'd of course, be obliged to pet and scratch until he had absorbed enough attention to satisfy his immediate needs. :)
Drifter has a very quiet motor, and he doesn't chirp very often. He has to be very motivated to say anything beyond a quiet but constant purr.
So this is Drifter, relaxing on his platform, on a hot day. I think it's a good pic, as his eyes are quite expressive, beside being really nicely colored: yellow-gold on the outside, but turning to a light blue around the pupil. I think multi-colored eyes are nature's finest tapestry, but perhaps I'm just opinionated. :) Also, while most cats have "pink" noses, Drifter's is quite dark.
This picture was taken 05-Aug-04. The image was taken with a Canon EOS 10D and the EF 28-200mm f/3.5-5.6 USM lens. The original was taken at full frame of 3072x2048x24b, ISO eqv 400, 1/250 shutter, f/5.6. This image was cropped and shrunken down for space conservation.
Disclaimer: I hate to have to put this on here, but the pic is copyright me. Please do not distribute, copy, alter, etc, without my permission. Having said all that, feel free to download and use it for your own inspiration.

In truth, it's probably a bit beyond "pet". If you look in my gallery, Dagger and Drifter are the only cougars (so far). There's actually one at the very bottom that's Drifter and I out for a walk.
But thank you very much for your compliment. It's really more just holding the little box, pointing it in the right directions and clicking the button while Drifter does all the work. :)

Sir Catamount: thank you for your kind words.
I have never really considered myself an "artist" nor photographer. Perhaps I am a reasonably talented amateur. :)
It is my sincere wish that through all that I do, whether photography or written words, that I will do these magnificent creatures justice. If only I could share with the world the awesome wonder that I feel for them, then I will have achieved the greatest wish I could have ever hoped for.
I am glad that you like Drifter. He is my life. Well, half of it anyway. :)
