Still digging through my backlog...
Broody klitchtits retreat to a secluded area a few days before it's time to lay their egg. Usually this is a cozy cabinet space built into all homes, but if the mother doesn't feel entirely comfortable in this prepared place she may restlessly and irritably pace all around the home trying out different spots like closets or behind furniture. Once she's settled down and laid the egg her mate brings her anything she needs for the month of brooding and her family decorates the area with brightly-colored charms. For the rare times she absolutely must leave the egg, her mate is expected to take over the brooding duties.
Males have a hard time remaining broody for the entire month of incubation, so in cases of gay adopting parents or the death of the mother, a mechanical incubator is usually used instead. There's no reason a mother can't use a mechanical incubator as well, but there's a certain amount of social stigma attached.
Once the egg hatches, both parents and anyone else they can rope into helping are kept busy for the rest of the year keeping the tiny underdeveloped hatchling alive. Local cultures vary, but as a general rule the hatchling doesn't get a name until a year and 3 days have passed from the day it pipped its shell.
