It's hard to resist the cuteness of a baby hippo! That face!

You're correct, I use paperclay ontop of the gourd so the armature is the shape I need. It's very hard to find gourds the perfect size and shape. I have WIP images on my instagram, here's the paperclay layer for Myn:

I've been struggling to make my armatures more of a complete shape before the epoxy comes out. I must try your method, it's brilliant. And from the looks of things I'll have to sign up for instagram too so I can see more of your progress shots.

Give it a try, hope it works for you! The epoxy is so gooey that've found a more shaped armature works best, with epoxy as only an armature adhesive and outer detail layer.
