"With this animite, I summon- Furok!" Said Kat as the green gemstone in his hand erupted into a stream of bubbling green energy which shot out and quickly manifested Furok in front of Kat. When Furok opened his eyes, he looked around to see that he and Kat were behind the Anthro base, Kat wore a more loose fitting grey sleeveless shirt and blue shorts, he was barefoot, and there wasn't an enemy in sight around them. Furok looked at Kat with a confused expression,
"Why did you call upon me, I don't see anyone to fight," Furok commented,
"We aren't fighting anyone, I wanted to brush your fur for you," Kat explained, causing Furok to blush,
"I er.. you don't have to do that," Furok explained,
"But I want to, especially if you'll enjoy it," Kat explained,
"But why?" Furok asked,
"Well if I'm going to be your magi until we find you a better one, I should do what I can to keep you happy and healthy," Kat explained, causing Furok to smile,
"Thank you Kat, that's very kind of you," said Furok
A little while later Furok sighed and let out a deep rumbling sound to indicate his enjoyment as Kat groomed his fur with a special brush. Kat chuckled a bit at the dream creature's pleasant reactions to having his coat brushed,
"Thanks so much for doing this for me Kat, I really like this," said Furok blissfully as Kat worked,
"No problem big guy," said Kat as he put down the brush momentarily to scratch the underside of Furok's muzzle with one hand, and behind his ears with the other, eliciting a purr from the bear-like creature. Kat then went right back to brushing, which he continued to do until Furok said he was content,
"It's been too long since my coat has received that kind of attention," Furok commented as he laid down on the ground,
"oh yeah?" Kat inquired as he sat down next to Furok,
"Yeah, the only other guy who groomed my coat for me was.. Tony…" Furok explained as he trailed off. Kat noticed the sadness in Furok's expression that followed his last statement and inquired-
"Was Tony your last Magi?", Furok nodded in response,
"He lived a long life and died a peaceful death, but it's still crazy to think that he's gone, we did so many crazy things together.. he treated me like an equal.. he went through ordeals to help me out, making me feel like he'd do as much for me as I'd do for him," Furok explained. Kat scratched the back of his head,
"Guess I'm a poor substitute," Kat commented, causing Furok's eyes to widen,
"No! Not at all, I'm not trying to compare you to Tony to make you feel bad, you've been my Magi for a day, and you've already shown me great kindness. I think you're great in your own right, I'm just reminiscing more than anything," Furok explained frantically, causing Kat to reach over and scratch behind Furok's ears,
"Relax, I was kidding, I'm not offended that you miss someone dear to you," Kat explained.
Furok then slightly repositioned himself so that his head rested in Kat's lap, wordlessly implying that he wanted more attention from Kat, which the hybrid complied to by petting Furok and scratching him in places he'd likely enjoy, such as once again behind his ears, or various areas on his snout. Furok purred a bit,
"Thanks, as you can imagine with how my body is, I can get itches on my face and such that are impossible for me to scratch," Furok explained,
"Sounds terrible," Kat commented,
"It is," Furok replied. Kat then took the opportunity to feel around Furok's orange antlers, they were hard and had an odd texture to them,
"Are your antlers sensitive?" Kat asked,
"I mean I can feel when they're being tugged or tapped on, though they're pretty tough and sturdy," Furok explained,
"I see," Kat replied.
Kat and Furok then sat in silence as Kat continued with his petting and scratching, until a short while later, Furok spoke up,
"Oh Kat, since you're going to be my magi, it would do us some good to go to the moonlands sometime and retrieve a few of Tony's old relics," Furok explained,
"Relics?" Kat inquired,
"Basically magical items that grant the user abilities to do amazing things," Furok explained,
"Ah I see, well why don't we go there now?" Kat asked. Furok looked at the hybrid in confusion,
"Now? A journey to the moonlands would take weeks," Furok explained,
"Not if we take Winston's gate hopper," Kat explained. Furok raised a brow,
"Gate… hopper?" Furok explained,
"Yeah, it's a machine, kind of like a relic, but not magical, and-" Kat tried explaining though Furok cut him off,
"I know what a machine is, Tony and Spencer would often tell me about them," Furok replied with a smile,
"Who's Spencer?" Kat inquired,
"Tony's grandfather, he was my magi before Tony," Furok explained. Furok then carefully got up,
"But that's great, if you have a way to get to the Moonlands in no time, then we can get the relics out of the way," Furok commented. Kat also got up and led Furok inside to Winston's lab.
Upon entering Winston's lab, Kat could see the gorilla using a stylus-like tool that appeared to function as a blowtorch since Winston was running the tip over parts of the device in his large hands where pieces of metal overlapped, sparks flew off it as Winston worked. Though upon hearing Kat and Furok enter, Winston promptly put the device and his strange welding tool down before approaching them,
"Kat! Furok! How are you two doing?" Winston asked,
"Fine, we were wondering if you could-" Kat attempted to request though Winston cut him off as he reached into his coat pocket,
"Oh, hold that thought, I've finally gotten around to finishing this for you!" Said Winston excitedly before he pulled out a device and handed it to Kat. Upon looking over the device and realising what it is, Kat's eyes lit up,
"No way… is this-?" Kat attempted to ask, though Winston's response cut him off,
"Your communicator? Yep, finally got around to making it for you," Winston explained happily. Kat turned the communicator on and started to go through the functions of the device by tapping on the touchscreen as Winston continued,
"Now you'll be able to keep in touch with us no matter where you go, though please use it responsibly," Winston requested. Kat simply kept fiddling with his new communicator, looking at the device as if it was a gift from a higher power,
"Thanks Winston, I like it already!" said Kat excitedly. Furok cleared his throat to get Kat's attention, causing the hybrid to put the communicator in his pocket,
"Oh right, Furok and I need to use the gate hopper," Kat explained. Winston turned his attention to the large platform on the other side of his lab,
"Where do you need to go?" Winston asked,
"The Moonlands, more specifically Vash Naroom, Kat needs to retrieve a couple of things from there" Furok explained,
"Ah I see, well just step on the platform and I'll find the location and coordinates," Winston instructed.
Kat and Furok did as they were instructed and stepped on the platform as Winston went to his computer to look up the information he needed. As Kat and Furok waited, Furok looked around and began to seem unsure of what they were doing,
"Uh.. Kat? How does this thing work exactly?" Furok asked,
"From what I've heard, it locks onto the energy that the gates of light give off and allows for nearly instantaneous travel within those worlds,". Upon hearing Kat’s explanation, Furok recalled the time Tony told him about the horror movie with the scientist fusing with a fly from a teleporter mishap and becoming an abomination, which made the dream creature think about the potential complications from using the gate hopper,
“Are you sure it’s safe? We’re not going to fuse together to make a horrible creature are we?” Furok asked, attempting to hide his fear. Kat gave Furok a puzzled look,
“Uh.. no, we shouldn’t. I’ve used the gate hopper a number of times, some of those times include using it at the same time as some of the other Anthros, and nothing bad has ever happened,” Kat explained. Kat was then surprised to see Furok’s fur change to a green hue as the dream creature groaned,
“Furok! What’s with your fur? Are you sick?” Kat asked as he looked over Furok attentively,
“No, my fur changes color depending on my mood. Green is for nervous, uneasy or seasick,” Furok explained,
“I see… if you’re really that nervous about using the gate hopper, how about I go alone to avoid the risk?” Kat offered,
“Oh good idea, you can send me back to the Dream Plane, go to Vash Naroom, then call upon me again if the citizens there give you trouble when you retrieve the relics,” said Furok.
“Ok but, how do I send you to the Dream Plane?” Kat asked,
“Simply say- “Furok, to the Dream Plane,” Furok explained,
“Alright, I think I got the right coordinates, you guys ready?” Winston asked from his computer,
“Just a sec Winston,” Kat replied before turning his attention back to Furok,
“Alright Furok, just leave it to me, I’ll be sure to get those relics before the day is over, I promise,” said Kat confidently,
“Thanks Kat,” Furok replied. Kat then reached his hand towards Furok,
“Furok, to the Dream Plane!” Kat instructed, causing Furok to turn into a stream of green light that flew into Kat’s hand before forming together and manifesting into his animite. After putting Furok’s animite back in his pocket, Kat turned his attention back to Winston,
“Alright Winston, I’m ready to go,” Kat explained. Winston then walked over to the gate hopper and pressed a few buttons on the nearby panel, causing the platform to light up and make whirring noises,
“Good luck,” said Winston,
“Thanks big guy,” Kat replied before the hopper sent him off in a flash of light, leaving Winston alone in his lab.
Within a moment, Kat found himself in the middle of a city consisting of houses and buildings built into the many trees in the area. A few residents walking around paid Kat only a surprised glance before returning to their daily routines,
"So this is Vash Naroom huh? I don't think I was expecting a forest city so this is a nice surprise. Though the citizens here don't seem all that surprised by my sudden appearance, guess weirder things have happened around here," Kat thought to himself. Upon looking more carefully at the citizens, Kat noticed that they resembled humans for the most part save for their pointed ears,
"Oooh~ maybe these people are like hylians!... Or maybe more like the Kokiri since they live in a forest, either way, it's like I'm in a real life Zelda adventure!" Kat thought to himself happily before he remembered why he came to the city. Kat approached a bearded Naroomese man tending to a patch of land with a hoe,
"Excuse me, do you know where I can find uh.. Orwin?" Kat inquired, remembering when Furok mentioned him as the reason he sought out to find a new Magi. The Naroomese man momentarily ceased his working to speak to Kat,
"You can usually find him in the library, it's the tall building in the center of the city. though I should warn you stranger, he's not particularly social or chatty today," the man explained,
"Well, chatty or not I need to retrieve those relics," Kat thought to himself before he started making his way towards the library,
"Thanks," Kat said to the Naroomese man,
"Sure thing, but be careful stranger," the man advised before going back to his work.
As Kat made his way towards the center of the city, he had the idea of having a mental conversation with Elster,
"So El, what do you think of this place so far?" Kat inquired mentally,
"It's alright I guess, I mean a city built into a forest certainly isn't the most unusual thing we've seen," Elster replied,
"True, so do you think you can tell me more about my title?" Kat inquired, remembering the discussion he had with his ancestor yesterday,
"Oh no you don't, I'm the one who decides what I tell you," Elster explained with a slight smugness to his tone,
"What? That's not fair!" Kat replied with a dissatisfied tone,
"You sound like a five year old, and sorry kid but that's my condition, if you really want to know about your class, you have to keep talking to me," Elster explained. Kat sighed,
"Fine, what info do you have for me today?" Kat inquired,
"Today I'll tell you a bit more about your gemstone. The gems of the suit each have a unique shape and a different message for what is implied from the bearer's journey, the heart is for those pursuing romance, the diamond is for those pursuing self worth, the spade is for those pursuing treasure, and the club is for those who require much luck for their journey to be successful," Elster explained,
"Huh, well given our thief abilities, it makes sense. Is that all the info you have for me?" Kat asked,
"Today yes, tune in tomorrow for more," said Elster in a playful way, though Kat rolled his eyes.
It wasn't long after Kat's conversation with Elster that he arrived at the library, it was a tall building compared to the other small houses that were scattered around the area amongst the trees with a number of circular glass panels that showed the symmetrical design of the building. After taking a moment to admire the building, Kat promptly went inside. As Kat walked around the large library he marveled at the large assortment of books that filled the shelves, subconsciously thinking about how much he'd enjoy reading them given how fond he was of reading, though he shook off those thoughts since he knew retrieving the relics came first. After walking around for a bit Kat tried calling out for someone,
"Hello?...Orwin? Are you here? I was told this was where I could find you," Kat explained. After walking around for a bit longer Kat spoke up again,
"Furok told me to come here, he told me to retrieve some relics since I became his Magi," Kat explained, once again he got no response in return. Kat sighed and explored further into the library, eventually stumbling into an office, though his eyes widened when he saw the state of disarray it was in.
Papers and feather quills were everywhere, there were small bottles of ink that were mostly empty and scattered about, much like their former contents, which made large stains in various areas on the walls and the large window in the back of the room. Upon noticing that the room was empty, Kat got a better look around, in particular he decided to check out the desk. Though much to Kat's surprise, roots suddenly tangled around his chest and constructed his arm movement,
"So you're the one the Syndicate wants," said a female voice behind Kat,
"W-what?" Said Kat in confusion before he turned to see a woman with long faded orange hair, green eyes, and pointed ears, and beside her was a rhino-like creature with blue eyes, a large yellow-green horn, a beige body with brown legs and leaves atop its head and along its back. Kat could also see that the roots tangled around him led into the creature's leaves, which was evidence that the creature is responsible for subduing Kat.
Kat did his best to struggle against the creature's roots, though its grip on the hybrid was far too strong, as well as steadily getting tighter and causing the hybrid to gag and struggle to breathe. The woman then gestured towards Kat,
"Ugger, wrap up the rest of him so we can take him to the Syndicate," the woman instructed the creature apparently named Ugger,
"With this animite, I summon Fu-" Kat attempted to say, though Ugger's roots quickly covered his mouth to muffle his speech,
"I don't think so," said Ugger with a sense of smugness, also revealing himself to have a male voice. Within moments, Ugger wrapped his roots all around Kat's body, completely subduing him and encasing him in a cocoon of roots that was suspended in midair thanks to Ugger holding it up,
"Nice job Ugger, Mumm-Ra will be pleased by our success," said the woman as she pet Ugger on the head,
"Let's make sure we get him to the Syndicate before we call this a success," Ugger suggested. Suddenly though, the root cocoon expanded in size, causing the Ugger and the woman's eyes to widen,
"Uh… you saw that too right?" Ugger asked, clearly referring to the cocoon expanding. Ugger then gained a pained expression, and in the span of a few seconds, kept crying out in pain with increasing frequency as the root cocoon gained a red color to it. After a bit, Ugger finally and quickly unraveled the cocoon, revealing not only Kat, but his loyal Incineroar Bruiser, who's fire belt was roaring in intensity as he and his trainer fell to their feet. Kat took this time to catch his breath since the roots constricted his breathing,
"Thanks Bruiser" said Kat graciously,
"No one hurts Bruiser's trainer…" said Bruiser angrily through his cries as he stared down Ugger and the woman,
"Edyn, what dream creature is that?!" Ugger asked in a frightened tone,
"I don't know! I've never seen anything like it," the woman apparently named Edyn replied. Kat got to his feet behind Bruiser,
"Alright, if type attacks apply to dream creatures, then a fire attack should do good against that leafy rhino," Kat explained to his Incineroar, though Bruiser scratched the back of his head,
"Bruiser not know any fire attacks," said Bruiser admittedly,
"What?! Then what moves do you know?" Kat asked,
"Darkest Lariat, Bulk Up, Revenge, and Thunderpunch," Bruiser explained, causing Kat to sigh,
"Well, not the best moves for his situation, though they could be worse," Kat commented. Kat then dug into his pocket and pulled out Furok's animite,
"With this animite, I summon- Furok!" Said Kat, causing Furok to appear in the office alongside him and Bruiser. Though upon appearing in the room, Furok's eyes widened upon seeing their opponents,
"Edyn? Ugger? What are you two doing?" Furok asked in a concerned tone,
"You know them?" Kat asked,
"They're my friends," Furok explained,
"You mean were your friends, our allegiance is to Mumm-Ra now, and if you decide to get in our way, we'll have no choice but to hurt you," Edyn warned,
"W-what? But, why now after everything we've been through?" Furok asked in confusion and betrayal, unable to process why the people he grew to trust and admire would suddenly be acting so maliciously. Kat on the other hand pondered for a moment and realized something about the situation they were in,
"Hold on Furok, something about this kind of behaviour seems... familiar. Like I've seen it before... And I have!" said Kat as he recalled his encounter with Akali yesterday, which had revealed she was being controlled by a mark, and wondered if the same was currently happening to Edyn and Ugger.
"Huh? Kat, what are you talking about?" Furok asked in confusion,
"Don’t worry, I might know of a way to bring your friends back to their normal selves, but I'm going to need-" But before Kat could finish what he had to say, he was interrupted by Edyn,
"If you're all finished chatting amongst yourselves, I believe it's time to bring you to Mumm-Ra now... Ugger! Horn Blast!" Edyn commanded,
"TAKE THIS!!" said Ugger as he unleashed a blast of aura from his horn at his three adversaries at the other end of the room. Thankfully though, without needing to be told, Furok managed to step in front of the hybrid and Incineroar and conjured his Energy Shield around the three of them to protect them. When the Horn Blast hit the shield, a large puff of smoke covered the side of the room Kat and his allies were on. When the smoke soon cleared, the shield dissipated to reveal that Kat and his allies were completely unharmed by the attack.
"Are you both alright?" said Furok as he turned to look at them once the smoke cleared,
"Y-yeah, thanks Furok, That's the second time you helped us out." Kat said with a brief smile before looking back at both Edyn and Ugger.
"But if we're to help them out, we need a distraction..." Kat explained, but before he could elaborate, Bruiser started charging towards Ugger,
“Bruiser!” Kat called out in concern,
"No worry Kat! Bruiser got this!" said Bruier through his cries. Before he could reach the Dream Creature though-
"Root Reach!" Edyn quickly commanded before two roots extended from his body and towards the fire tiger Pokémon! The roots wrapped around his arms as Ugger was trying to restrain them, clearly being wary of Bruiser’s belt. Though this didn’t faze Kat, and in fact he got quickly got an idea for how to use Ugger’s attack against him,
"Bruiser, use Darkest Lariat!" Kat instructed. Furok looked to the hybrid with confusion, before looking towards the Incineroar who had a smirk on his face as he nodded before he spun around rapidly, wrapping Ugger’s roots around himself and quickly pulled the dream creature closer to him. When the distance was just right, Kat took the moment to issue another command,
"Good job Bruiser! Now free a hand and Thunderpunch!" Kat commanded before the Incineroar slipped one of his arms free from Ugger’s restraining roots, pulled back the arm as he made a fist, which soon had been completely enveloped with electricity as Bruiser smirked and Ugger was starting to panic,
"E-Edyn! H-help m-" Ugger attempted to say before he was cut off from an electrified punch to the face. Ugger was sent flying across the room as the roots disconnected from Bruiser’s body. Then while Edyn was distracted from seeing her dream creature take such a heavy hit, Kat snuck behind her and saw the serpentine mark on the nape of Edyn’s neck,
“just as I thought, it is the mark causing you to act like this, but no more" said Kat as he put his hand on the nape of Edyn’s neck and started to absorb its power as she groaned in pain with a dark bubbling glow surrounding both of their bodies until it was completely absorbed. After the mark was absorbed Edyn fell forward a bit before Kat caught her and helped her sit down.
After a bit of time had passed, Edyn's eyes started fluttering until they were completely open as before she closed them as she groaned and rubbed her head as her Dream Creature came to as well,
"M-mmmmmmm… what happened to me? Why does my head feel so hazy?" Said Edyn in a state of confusion,
"Edyn!" said Ugger before he soon came running up to her. Ugger nuzzled against her as the two of them chuckled and she petted him,
“Ugger, it’s always good to see you alive and well,” said Edyn happily,
"Of course I’m well, this dream creature is made of tough stuff. You feeling alright though?" Ugger asked with a concerned tone,
"I'm a little exhausted, but otherwise fine," Edyn explained. Edyn then turned to face the others, being especially shocked to see Furok,
"F-Furok?! It's... It's been a long time since we've seen you," said Edyn, clearly happy from the reunion, Ugger laughed a bit with joy before adding-
"Furok! Hey, it's been a long time buddy! We really missed you!". Furok couldn’t help but smile, warm feelings of happiness and nostalgia came to him to see his friends again, especially since they were acting normal,
"It is good to see you both again, I’m sorry if I caused you to worry." said Furok regretfully as he smiled. Before long, Edyn and Ugger turned their attention to Bruiser and Kat,
"I don’t know who you two are, but can you explain what happened to us? Because honestly, my head's spinning." Edyn inquired. Kat crossed his arms,
"It’s just as I thought, Edyn... you were most likely ambushed by a member of the Syndicate of Malevolence and had that snake mark forcibly put onto the nape of your neck, which brainwashed you into wanting to take me to them. Thankfully though, I'm able to remove that mark, thus freeing the victim from their brainwashing,” Kat explained aloud,
“But I never saw a mark on Ugger, so why was he under its influence?" Kat asked himself mentally. Edyn seemed taken aback by Kat’s explanation,
"I see, this mark must’ve affected Ugger too since he is essentially under my command. I made my partner attack you, I'm so sorry for that." Said Edyn apologetically as she got back on her feet,
“It’s ok, you weren’t yourself,” Kat replied,
“I suppose, and it’s good to see no one was too badly hurt.. Though who are you?” Edyn inquired,
“This is Kat, my new magi, and the big red and black tiger guy is Bruiser, who to my understanding isn’t a dream creature but rather a pokemon… whatever that is,” Furok explained, causing Edyn to tilt her head in confusion,
“Pokey… mon?” Edyn inquired,
“Yeah, a pocket monster, a creature that can harness the power of the elements and enter these devices called pokeballs to fit in your pocket,” Kat explained,
“So they don’t leave animite?” Ugger asked,
“No, they aren’t indiginous to this world, and anyway that’s beside the point, Edyn, do you remember how you got that mark?” Kat asked, causing Edyn to scratch her chin,
"Now that I think about it... I remember something that happened a little while ago. Some kind of cloaked figure managed to get into the library, and when I saw their face, I could see they resembled something like a... a..." said Edyn as she tried to recall the events,
"a vampire, that much I remember." Ugger chimed in to help Edyn,
"Yes, that's it! Thanks Ugger. The vampire showed up while Orwin and I were here, despite our efforts to hold it back, we were no match for it as it put the marks on us," Edyn explained. Upon hearing Edyn’s story, Bruiser spoke to Kat,.
"Kat, what if the Orwin guy still have mark?" Bruiser asked, causing Kat to relay the concern to the rest of the group,
"Guys, Orwin may still have the mark on him. We need to find him and-" Kat attempted to suggest, though he was cut off by the sound of doors opening and footsteps.
"Edyn? What is taking you so lo- !! I-impossible!" said a male voice with shock in his tone as everyone turned to face the owner of the voice. A man with pointy ears, blue eyes, brown hair that connected with his beard, wearing a bluish-green robe over a white and light green long sleeve shirt with vines around his waist to serve as a belt stood at the doorway of the office,
"Orwin! This is Kat, he has liberated me and Ugger from the mark, He can help you too!” Edyn offered hopefully. Orwin gave the group a nasty glare, though everyone was unfazed,
"Even with your magic, you are outnumbered. It would be wise for you to surrender no-" Edyn attempted to offer, though Orwin cut her off,
"Never! I would never go against Lord Mumm-Ra’s wishes. Though as much as I don’t want to admit it, you’re right, this doesn’t seem like a battle I can win, thus you leave me no choice- HAAAAAA!!" said Orwin as he gestured his hand forward and a blinding light shone from it and filled the room. The group averted their gaze from the bright light, which quickly vanished as they could see Orwin attempt to abscond, the old Naroomese man already exiting the library. The five of them quickly joined Orwin outside to see a green animite in his hands,
"With this Animite, I summon- Shirdor!" Orwin chanted, causing a dream creature to appear in front of him in a flash of green light. The dream creature was a white dragon with green wings and even green feather-like features from beyond its blue brows. The creature named Shirdor lowered one of its wings for Orwin to quickly climb onto its back, and taking off the moment his magi boarded him,
"You win today, but I will eventually bring the hybrid to lord Mumm-Ra. Let’s get out of here Shirdor!" Orwin commanded. Within moments Shirdor took to the sky, high above the trees and started making his getaway,
"Damn it! How can we catch up to him now?!” Kat cursed in frustration as he clenched his fists and looked towards the ground.
Though to Kat’s surprise, he saw Edyn offer him a silver ring with small wings on it,
“Huh? What’s that?” Kat asked,
“A Silver-Flight relic,” Edyn explained,
“One of the relics we were supposed to retreive,” Furok added,
“Well what does it do?” Kat asked as he accepted the ring from Edyn and examined it,
“It grants a dream creature the power of flight for a while,” Edyn explained. Kat then looked up towards Orwin, who was a decent distance away on Shirdor,
“Oh! I think I see what you’re saying,” said Kat with a sense of realization, causing Edyn to giggle,
“Yes, use the power of the relic on Furok to give him wings. It’s your only hope of catching up to Orwin,” Edyn explained,
“You aren’t coming with me? I’m pretty sure you could also fit on Furok’s back,” Kat offered,
“As much as I’d like to, I’m still too drained. Please Kat, save Orwin, I’m counting on you,” Edyn instructed hopefully. Edyn then returned Ugger to the dream plane, and after looking at the ring again, Kat returned Bruiser to his pokeball and put the ring on. A brilliant light shone from the ring before Furok’s body glowed and large blue angelic wings sprouted from Furok’s back. Kat’s eyes widened as he took in Furok’s appearance,
“Wow Furok, you look so majestic,” said Kat with an impressed tone,
“Thanks, though admire my wings later. We’ve gotta catch Orwin!” Furok reminded Kat,
“Right!” said Kat as he hopped onto Furok’s back. Furok made use of his new wings and got off the ground after only two flaps, and before Kat knew it, they were making their way towards Orwin and Shirdor,
“Furok, Kat, you can do this…!” said Edyn to herself hopefully as she saw the two fly after Orwin.
Kat was amazed as Furok took him high above the towering trees of Vash Naroom. The air sped past them and made Kat’s long dark hair and tail dance in the opposite direction that Furok flew. Kat’s heart beat in his chest as the chase continued, though the stakes were high and apprehending Orwin took priority, Kat couldn’t help but admire just how fast Furok was going. The hybrid always had both a desire to fly and a love of fast speeds, so being able to ride Furok as he soared through the air with his wings felt euphoric for the hybrid. Though Kat soon shook off those distracting thoughts as Furok was quickly catching up with Orwin and Shirdor,
“How should we go about doing this?” Kat asked Furok over the blowing winds,
“I’ll get you nice and close, and you do your thing to fix Orwin,” Furok instructed,
“You make it sound so easy, but I don’t know where his mark is and unlike with Edyn we’re not on solid ground,” Kat explained,
“I’m sure you’ll think of something, though we need to do our best to get this right, the more attempts we make to take that mark off Orwin, the harder it’ll be for us to get the jump on him. Not to mention these wings ain’t gonna last forever unlike Shirdor’s,” Furok explained,
“Kat, what about Act 1? You could take that dragon’s speed if you managed to touch it,” Elster suggested,,
“Oh that’s right, I hadn’t even thought of that… but if I take his speed while we’re up in the air, won’t he plummet to his death along with Orwin?” Kat asked mentally,
“Not if you use your special skill for Act 1,” Elster suggested,
“Special skill?” Kat inquired mentally,
“Yeah, though I should warn you, it’s an all or nothing sort of thing,” Elster explained. Kat took a deep breath before replying to Elster,
“It might be worth a try. Tell me about this special skill,” Kat requested, causing Elster to explain the skill to Kat, which in turn caused Kat to formulate a plan, in which he discreetly told Furok about his part in.
Meanwhile Orwin looked back to see Furok and Kat on his tail, causing the elderly man to shoot them a scornful glare,
“Just don’t know when to quit do you?” Orwin asked rhetorically, though Kat ignored his comment and went ahead with his plan,
“Furok- Energy Trail!” Kat instructed, causing a stream of blue energy to shoot from Furok’s hind paws and rocket him forward at a significantly faster speed. Orwin’s eyes widened when he realized that Furok would slam into Shirdor at the rate he was flying,
“Shirdor, Watch out!” Orwin instructed, causing his dragon dream creature to quickly flap his wings to propel himself away and narrowly avoid being hit by the careering bear. Orwin had thought Kat’s plan had failed, though he was caught by surprise when Furok managed to stop himself and turn around while he was in front of Shirdor. Then before Orwin could issue another command to Shirdor, Kat stood up on Furok’s back, turned into his Act 1 form, and jumped off Furok’s back with a great deal of force as he lunged towards Orwin. The old magi was about to order Shirdor to fly away from Kat, though nothing could prepare him for what the hybrid would do next. Kat reached a hand towards Orwin and Shirdor as his lunge closed the distance between him, an intense amount of blue electricity crackled around Kat’s outstretched hand, and within the moment Kat managed to get within a few feet of Shirdor, the hybrid called out-
“Speed Demon, do or die move! Speed Bankruptcy!!” which caused a large area around Orwin and Shirdor in the sky to become engulfed with a photo negative energy as dark blue electricity crackled around the immediate exterior of the space.
Orwin and Shirdor immediately found themselves not being able to move a muscle, it was as though time had completely come to a stop around them, though Kat leisurely entered the space, and grabbed ahold of Shirdor when he got close and quickly joined Orwin on his back. Then moving as quickly as possible, Kat looked over Orwin and found the mark on one of his palms, after quickly absorbing the mark, the strange area dissipated, causing the flow of time to return to normal. Kat and Orwin both fell to their knees as Kat returned to his normal form and did his best to catch his breath, Furok flew close to Shirdor, who was thankfully friendly as he originally was and in a perfectly stable state to continue flying,
“Kat! Are you ok buddy?” Furok asked in concern,
“Yeah… it’s just that skill takes a lot out of me in a ridiculously short time frame, I’m almost completely out of energy,” Kat explained,
“Is Orwin back to his regular self?” Furok asked. Orwin groaned and rubbed his temples, though when he took the time to look around, his eyes widened with surprise,
“What the-?! Shirdor why are we in the air… and who are you?” Orwin asked when he saw Kat next to him,
“That’s Kat Orwin, he’s my new buddy, be sure to give him the relics he needs,” Furok explained. Orwin’s eyes widened when he heard Furok’s voice as his gaze shifted to the dream creature,
“Furok! You’re back!” said Orwin in amazement,
“Yeah though not for long, looks like my magi can’t keep me here for much longer,” Furok informed Orwin,
“This man named Kat is your new Magi?” Orwin inquired,
“Well, until further notice, though I can’t complain. Anyway Kat send me back to the dreamplane, you look like you’re about to keel over,” Furok instructed. Kat nodded and reached his hand out,
“Furok- to the dream plane,” said Kat as Furok returned to the dream plane and his animite went right into Kat’s hand before Kat put it into his pocket since it seemed like a safer option. Orwin turned to face Kat,
“I think I need an explanation for what happened,” Orwin requested,
“You’ll get it, let’s just return to the library for now,” Kat suggested, and after a quick glance down to see where Vash Naroom was from the area in the sky they were in, Orwin instructed Shirdor to fly them back to the library.
After returning to solid ground in front of the library near a very relieved Edyn, Orwin returned Shirdor to the dream plane and Edyn explained what happened as best as she could, after hearing the explanation Orwin seemed troubled, though he did his best to hide it as he directed Kat and Edyn back to the office in the library to help Kat with the reason he came to the moonlands in the first place. Orwin’s eyes widened when he saw the state his office was in before he shook his head with a sigh,
“Oh yeah sorry about your office Orwin, If it makes you feel any better- this was about how messy it was before my battle with Edyn” Kat informed Orwin sheepishly, somehow feeling somewhat responsible,
“It doesn’t, but the mess can wait, and it’ll be my burden to clean up anyway so don’t concern yourself with it” Orwin explained as he sat at his cluttered desk before he beckoned Kat to come closer. When Kat was close enough to the desk, Orwin handed him an oval shaped device comprised of light blue and light grey hexagonal shapes that gave it a turtle shell look,
“This is an Orothian belt, wearing it will transform your body to be able to swim and breath underwater, and it will also transform Furok and any other dream creatures you might use into a more aquatic form..." Orwin explained. Kat looked at the relic with a sense of amazement,
"Just like the Zora Mask in Majora's Mask!" Kat thought to himself excitedly before Orwin continued,
"This and the Silver-Flight relic, which you used perfectly well earlier, were the relics I wanted to give you, use them well,” Orwin explained, Kat put both the ring and the relic that was somehow a belt in his pocket,
“Great, is that all? Not to be rude, but I could use some rest,” Kat informed Orwin,
“Almost, though before you go I should tell you why Furok coming to you is such a big deal. You see, many years ago three heroes had many adventures to restore peace to the Moonlands and defeat Agram, these three were Tony Jones, a human from earth, a world parallel to this one, Strag, a boy from the Underneath, and Edyn, my pupil,” Orwin explained, pausing to allow Kat to glance at Edyn,
“Those were the days,” she said with a smile,
“Eventually they were successful, defeating not only Agram, but any other threat to the Moonlands, bringing a peace to it that has lasted for a long time, and by long time I mean until a while ago when Edyn and I were marked. Furok had retired to the dream plane for many years, Tony lived a long and fulfilling life before passing away, we had hoped the peace would last, but using my magic to look into the future, I could see that a terrible cataclysm awaits us should Furok remain in the dream plane. So I sent him to find a new magi, and with this magi, he should be able to prevent that cataclysm,” Orwin explained gravely,
“I’m sorry to hear about that Orwin, but I don’t know if I’m the guy for the job, my role as Furok’s magi very well could be a temporary one,” Kat explained,
“Whether you’re Furok’s magi or you’re not though you can find Furok a better magi isn’t an issue. Do what you feel is best, and I’m sure you can save us,” Orwin explained. Kat sighed, feeling something of a weight on his shoulders from what Orwin told him,
“I’ll keep that in mind, in any case I should go,” Kat informed Orwin as he left his office,
“Farewell Kat, I believe you can make a better future for not only us, but the countless individuals outside of the moonlands,” Orwin informed Kat as he took his leave.
Meanwhile in the castle of the Syndicate of Malevolence, Mumm-Ra chuckled menacingly as he had watched Kat’s battle with both Edyn and Orwin through his crystal ball,
“Eager to absorb my marks are you? Well I’ve got plenty more where that came from, hybrid. My plan is coming along nicely,” Mumm-Ra commented ominously before letting out a terrible laugh that echoed in his chamber.
