Here's a Kobold that's been in the works for about a month or so now. I'm really happy with how he turned out :> I haven't been one for having multiple characters but I figured having a smol bold around is kind of nice!
He's an Icey boi, Frost Kobold. He Yips a lot. And he goes by Scippy or Scipps.
I also made a story for him, one of which I hope to make art of it in the future~
Scippy - The Frost Kobold
The life of a Kobold isn’t as pleasant and welcoming as it sounds, especially for Scippy. Born in the cold caves north of the mountains, Scippy enjoyed his youth with his parents who cared and nurtured him since he was a hatchling. His parents had trouble bearing hatchlings, and thus saw Scippy as a miracle. They gave him that name because shortly after hatching he proceeded to hop out of the nest on one foot, skipping along the way.
All was well for Scippy and his parents, making friends with other Kobolds and learning more about himself and the environment encompassing him. As Scippy entered into his adolescent age his father caught a terrible flu. At first thinking none of it, but as the symptoms got worse by the day Scippy would travel far outside of his small village to find resources in hopes of finding a cure for his father’s illness. After several days, nothing seemed to work, and after a long hard fought week his father passed away. Heartbroken by this, Scippy blamed himself for not being able to find a cure fast enough. His mother broke down but also rose up, now having to care for her child by herself, the only one she has left in her life. Together they continued on with their lives, holding yearly ceremonies in memory of the love they lost on his father’s hatchday.
Together Scippy and his mother healed from their loss, spending more time on small projects and developing Scippy into a fine kobold. In his years leading up to adulthood, Scippy learned how he possessed ice powers, namely his ice breath. His mother smiled, reinforcing her idea that Scippy was a miracle, wondering how his father would have reacted to such a discovery. At first his breath seemed like chilling wind, but soon he was able to use it to instantly freeze the meat of prey to keep rations higher. This helped boost his village’s population as more could eat. Scippy learned through diligence and devotion he could make life greater for those around him, and spent a long time learning how to better handle his new found powers.
As his village grew, so did the threats. As the tallest tree catches the most wind, so was his village in spreading awareness. Raid groups sent out to take supplies from the kobolds, as small as they were they posed virtually no resistance to these raids. Only Scippy and his powers were able to stop a few of the raiders, but not enough to prevent all of it. Scippy took it upon himself to prepare ice imbued weapons for his village, as well as ice traps. Those who raided the village were met with uncanny ways of fighting, none of which they were prepared for. Soon word spread about the kobold who was using ice powers to upgrade his village, and so was the bounty for this kobold. They wanted him alive, and thus directed all attention to Scippy instead of raiding the village.
Once Scippy learned of this bounty, he had to make a hard choice: surrender himself to his pursuants, or abandon his village in hopes that the raids will cease. He went to his mother with this conundrum, who then told him a pinnacle question. “My son, you’re blessed with the gift of life. Do not throw it away. Ask yourself this question: What would father have done?” With a tear in his eye, Scippy nodded and slept on it. Fires raging back and forth inside of him, he couldn’t sleep the whole night. What would father do?
After putting a lot of thought into it, Scippy wrote a note to his mother. In it he wrote about how much he loves her, and regardless of what happens to him he shall return to her some day. He tasked himself with getting strong enough to protect the village he loves. And with that he set off, treading through the cold winters and hot summers, moving forward in hopes of knowing he saved his village and can find someone to teach him how to use his powers.
While in the forest, Scippy was hiding out in a shelter he made overnight, made of rocks and bushes. A pack of ruffians surrounded his shelter and ambushed him. Scippy yipped and tried to get away but the intruders quickly grabbed him. “We got him! Thar a good shiny bounty we did. Now let’s go back to the ci-” A sudden strike of lightning breached the area around them, lighting the whole area like daytime and scaring some of the ruffians to their feet. They knew exactly who it was, and half the group ran away for their lives. Two of them split away from the group, one holding Scippy as he struggled and tried to wiggle free.
A tall figure with glowing white eyes and a bright upside-down triangle glowing from his forehead ran after those who took Scippy. Another flash of lightning sent directly hit the one ruffian not holding Scippy, sending him to the ground. With a burst of adrenaline the last ruffian quickly ran around trees to lose his pursuer. It wasn’t long before the ruffian began to lose speed, quite rapidly, and actually collapsed to the ground with bits of frost over his mid-section. As he was running Scippy was radiating a chilling frost as well as using his frost breath on him.
As the last ruffian fell, Scippy quickly got himself up and began to run away from the pursuer. Large wings emerged from the tall figure and suddenly he took flight. Scippy not looking where he’s going and in a panic tripped and fell on the hard ground, making a yip. He turned over in fear, watching as the dark figure caught up to him and approached him slowly. He cowered as the figure reached out with a claw, palm up. “The forest’s no place for a little Kobold. What’s your name?”
Scippy looked surprised, slowly reached out with his small paw and grasped the claw. He was pulled up quickly to his feet, giving another small yip at the sudden movement. Scippy barely reached the tall figure’s thigh in height.
The figure lit a torch and revealed himself to be a blue dragon with a purple upside-down triangle on his forehead. He gave a warm smile and beckoned him into his arms. “Come on, lets get you some proper clothes and a nice meal.” Scippy immediately jumped into his arms, tears welling up in his eyes as he hugged him close. “My names ZTragon, or ZT as my friends call me. I don’t think I got your name, but thats okay. Lets get you some rest”
ZT took off his cape and wrapped it around Scippy. He also took note at Scippy’s reaction to the torch, noting that Scippy seemed to wiggle away from the heat. ZT’s thick scales made it easier to withstand the radiating cold that Scippy’s body gave off.
From there on, ZT and Scippy formed a bond of friendship and helped each other grow and fulfill their journeys, wherever they take them.
