To be honest I think the crazy shippers are the vocal minority. I have some friends that ship wildehopps and are ok with other ships. The main problem, imo, is that the vocal ones manage to annoy people into antagonizing them. I remember I got baited into it a lot when I first discovered the zootopia fandom.
The truth is that Zootopia fanfics are not bad, they are acceptable, but the problem is that the authors of the fanfics or fan comics repeat the same romance stories between Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde. And yes, there are very interesting stories that They are not Romance between Wildehopps but watching related stories of the aforementioned wildehopps they become so repetitive that it can get tiring. That's why I don't read any fanfic related to Zootopia nor do I read comics related to Wildehopps.
And the worst thing is that the zootopia fandom is so egocentric that it doesn't accept people who don't like Wildehopps and makes them look like bad people.
