About:
Kaine tends to enjoy sticking to his own devices. He can become quite flirtatious, even in the heat of battle, to ease his mind or to keep from saying things he knows may offend. One of his many impulses is to speak without thinking, flaunting anything he knows, acting as if he's in control of a situation when he's not. He knows he doesn't, but he can't seem to help it. Despite this, Kaine is quite the adventurer and enjoys the history and findings usually found through exploration. If he finds anything of worth, it's placed in a collection of many other things he's collected over the years.
He really enjoys talking to others, to learn more about a world that was hidden from him for far too long. More often than not, he tries his best to bring a smile and joy to people and situations even if it may have the opposite effect. He has an issue with speaking or being honest with others and himself happens more than he'd like to think, opting to hide within a bottle to allow it to say what he doesn't or can't say. It's not healthy nor practical, but it keeps Kaine afloat.
There are, of course, things he definitely can't say or won't speak about, especially when it comes to his life in Tevinter. It tugs at his heart, makes him yearn for home.
Kaine enjoys fashion and culture. He would always be found reading through old history books or archives others normally could not read. The same could be said for fashion, as one of his many passions was always to create the perfect outfit for any time of day, although such a dream never came true. One could say he's a connoisseur of fine alcohol. If there was ever a new brand of alcohol released or any, then Kaine would be there to be the first to taste it. Many have used his judgment to help them with their finest bottles.
He simply can't stand when people talk down his homeland, pointing out the horrid things the Imperium did in the past, and who it bred, but Thedas has its own share of corruption, of forbidden magic and villains. It is not always the Imperium who does wrong. Maybe they'll see that one day. He has a huge dislike for rage and desire demons. He knows that, given the choice and chance, he will give in, allowing for the hatred he has for how people treat him and his people, and the desire to set them straight will consume him, turning him into an abomination.
It's bad enough he chose a forbidden path.
Spells used often:
Flash Freeze
The time around Kaine and his allies stop, giving them moments to lay siege to their enemies. It takes a great amount of concentration and magic for him to achieve this, so he rarely ever uses it.
Warp
Just like an Eluvian, Kaine is able to travel to different areas, much like teleportation. At times, he does not know where he will end up or what will change, so it's rarely used.
Slow
With just enough magic, Kaine is able to pull at the fade, to slow the time around himself and allies. It gives him a window to escape, although bodes horribly for those around him.
Fade Step
Invisible waves of magic carry Kaine forward, allowing him to travel ahead of a short distance. If he passes through enemies, then they will be chilled, taking damage as a result.
Barrier
A magical barrier is placed upon him and his allies, acting as a shield for attacks. Once it depletes, it will explode and damage any enemies within the area
Reanimate
Kaine is able to take over the bodies of fallen allies and enemies to have them fight alongside him in battle. As long as he has the magic and he concentrates, then they will continue to fight.
Backstory:
Kaine was born in 9:13 Dragon, as the second oldest to Cornelius Valenti, the most renowned Magister of his time. He wished for Kaine to replace him within the Magisterium once he passed onto the next life, considering his magic was more potent than his brothers. Unfortunately, the boy focused on studying history and learning about fashion with his mother while pushing politics to the side. Even though he was disappointed, Cornelius allowed this to continue.
At least, for now.
As he grew older and his health began to deteriorate, Cornelius placed more emphasis on magic and politics, even while his position was constantly threatened. He did what he could to teach his sons all he knew, to make sure their minds were filled with knowledge of magic, language, politics, and speech as his time drew ever closer.
Despite the constant pushing to take his seat, Kaine cared and loved deeply for his father and didn't want to see him go. It'd break him if he did.
During Kaine's twenty second birthday, his father didn't arrive as he said he would, running late due to some unexpected work. Worry and fear crept upon the family, holding them like a vice. A courier arrived moments later, a letter given to Ramona with a weary smile. Could it be…? It informed them of Cornelius's untimely demise, assassinated and hung for all of Miranthous to see. It filled Kaine with sadness and anger.
So much so to the point of vowing revenge for his father.
The only issue was the fact he couldn't figure out who the culprit could be. His father had many enemies, all fighting for the spot once he was ill. A man named Maximus Faustus took his father's spot without question, even though it rightfully belonged to Bastian. Did it suddenly not belong to the Valenti family any longer? No one would give Kaine the answers he desired, either brushing off or ignoring questions.
If no one was going to give him any answers; he'd take them.
He stooped to lows he never thought imaginable, blackmailing the people within Maximus’ inner circle, beating them into submission until there was little choice but to tell him the truth. His mother did not approve of his actions, but could not deny he was justified in doing so. This was how they were going to get information.
Nearly a year passed since his murder, uncovering little information as the man who stole his seat still kept it, rubbing it in their faces whenever possible. Oh, how he wished he could go back — that was it! Time magic! If he could learn it, he'd be able to save his father and destroy this man for good. His family would be happy again. Magic such as that was unpredictable, unstable, and difficult to learn, but it was a risk he was willing to take. It was his only choice.
Each book he managed to find were read thoroughly, dissected for all their knowledge, uncaring of the scrutinizing gazes. None of them could possibly understand the pain he felt. He dug as deep as he could, taking books from the Magisterium and libraries for people of his status.
Although, it was one thing to learn and another to practice.
For days on end, Kaine secluded himself from the world to practice in secret, afraid of the repercussions it'd cause to those around him. It was as difficult as Kaine thought it to be, nearly destroying the room and himself on multiple occasions, but he continued to try. Kaine’s family saw him very little, as the man was distant, almost as if life was drained from his body. He only came around for various ingredients or to fill his belly. Another year passed until Kaine felt as if he could properly wield the magic, and returned to society as if nothing happened.
His family didn't understand what caused this change, but they received no answers. While they were worried, Kaine was plotting.
Under the cover of darkness, Kaine arrived at Maximus' home, staring into his bedroom through one of the windows with disgust. He gathered all the magic within him, “You will feel what my family has felt.” The magic released in a concentrated blast, which was meant to send them back in time, but instead… It froze the man, his family, and everyone else within the house in time. Life, as they knew it, was taken from them. How could he have foreseen this coming? He made sure everything was correct, and it resulted in… This.
Kaine couldn't face the Magisterium or his family for his crimes, so his only option was to simply… Flee Tevinter. He packed what was necessary, taking the next ride to Ferelden.
What else was he to do?
As soon as he was safely in Ferelden, he traveled the world under a new guise and identity for a fresh start, of sorts, but all he could wonder was when he'd be hunted for his crimes. A year or two passed until the destruction of the Conclave occurred, where the tears within the sky formed. He wanted no part in it.
Word, as expected, spread fast of the newly formed Inquisition, and it was almost a relief, but still… He wandered. What could he possibly gain from joining them? Kaine began to regret those words when the Venatori, a cult of Nationalist Supremacists, began to cause chaos and assist Corypheus to take over the world. Unfortunately, Kaine was targeted due to his heavy ties to Tevinter, and the forbidden magic he possessed. Did they think Kaine would join him?
He dodged the Venatori for as long as he could, but it was becoming increasingly difficult to survive while constantly looking over his shoulder. In the end, there was only one choice to make.
Join the Inquisition or face death.
