Spent yesterday trying to create a toon shader by feeding the data through a regular shader first to capture some lighting information, crossing that with normal data, then saturating the hell out of it before finally applying an outline. The result was okay. I'm going to try and refine this later, but I think some simpler textures would actually work better in this case due to the somewhat cell shaded look I'm going for.
