“Oh please, like this is the worst I have done.”
Dr. Pleasence sighed as he tossed the police report on the table in front of him. He rubbed the top of his balding head, the graying hair at his temples slightly frizzed out as he looked across the table at the behemoth of a man sitting there.
He was dressed in a set of pale green scrubs, a pair of sandals practically vanishing beneath his feet as he hunched slightly in the too-small chair. His shoulders were nearly as wide as the table sitting between them. Bloody bandages covered both of his arms and the side of his neck. His face was entirely wrapped with gauze, his odd mismatched eyes staring unfeelingly from the blank white mask.
“Five bodies this time, Steven.” Dr. Pleasence droned. He was becoming numb to these visits.
“Six, doctor.” His patient corrected. His deep voice echoed off of the plain white cinderblock walls.
“Ah, yes, six. You killed their damned dog.” He rested his head in his hands, easily within arms reach of the giant, knowing that for some reason Steven would not harm him. At least, not here.
Steven gave a low laugh that bubbled in his throat, his adam’s apple bobbing up and down beneath the stubble covering his neck. “Yeah. You should’ve seen the look on her face when they found that little bastard pinned to the wall. Classic.”
“You have to stop doing this, Steven.” Dr. Pleasence shouted out standing from his seat. "Every year it’s the same thing, but this? Five teenagers this time?!“
“Oh please, like this is the worst I have done.” The huge man sneered beneath his bandages, drumming his fingers on the table. "At least I didn’t harm any guards in my escape this time.”
The doctor sighs and slumps back into his seat. He had to admit that was true. The slaughter two years ago when this monster of a man had broken out was a true nightmare. Three floors had to be repainted to cover the bloodstains on the walls. "How much longer, Steven?“
He slowly leans forwards over the table, his bandaged face with it’s shaggy mane of hair just inches from that of Dr. Pleasence. "I beg you pardon, doctor?”
“How much longer are you going to keep doing this? Breaking out of your cell year after year, murdering innocen-”
The giant leaps to his feet, flinging the table to the side as if it were made of cardboard. It smashed to the floor, breaking into pieces as he loomed over the doctor. His huge, ham-like hands reached down, mere inches from his face as he gripped the doctor’s jacket in his fists. He hissed out, “No one is innocent.”
Steven blinked, seeming to snap out of his sudden rage as he saw the papers fluttering down. His giant hands patted the doctor’s jacket before straightening his tie, “Forgive me, doctor. That was very rude of me.”
He was lost in thought for a moment, rubbing at his bandaged chin, “I suppose it will continue until it’s no longer any fun for me. The challenge of escape, the hunt, the thrill of the kill, and finally the chase, becoming the hunted.” He grunts in satisfaction, grinning to show a mouth full of broken, jagged teeth.
There was a loud banging on the reinforced metal door as a guard’s voice chimed out, “Time’s up, Dr. Pleasence. Let’s go.”
Steven actually leaned over, gathering up the scattered papers and folder, handing them back to the smaller man who had gone pale at his revelation, “Here you are, Doctor. I very much look forward to your next visit.”
Dr. Pleasence turned his back on the giant and carefully walked towards the waiting door, glancing once over his shoulder. Steven simply sat in his too-small chair, lifting one massive hand to wave to the doctor, a pleasant smile on his lips.
