#3200 Angry Owl
I do this with every 100th watcher. And I keep a watch seeing who will be the 100th, cause I think one person is, only to lose a watcher or three, then need to regain a few. Plus it sorta welcomes that watcher.
tefian is #3200 officially. And since they use an owl for their icon, I ran with that.
Behold, the Argentinian Angry Owl! (insert National Geographic music here) Plus every owl I've seen locally just glares at me from the trees.

I'd never heard of one since I live in South Texas. My friend, who grew up in Chicago, showed me this scene to describe what its like having to live with screech owls around.

He says they sound even worse in Real Life, because they sound indistinguishable from a woman screaming bloody murder.

I should tell you about my encounter with an owl. Happened late at night on the highway at about 72 mph. I was driving and suddenly this flying thing when THUD! into my car from out of nowhere! I blared the horn more out of me being startled than anything, then pulled to the side of the highway and looked back. "Well, shit." I said. I'd just hit something. Might as well go back and get it off the road. So I exit my car and head on back with a flashlight.
See, I'm the kind of person who believes it's disrespectful to just leave something dead in the roadway. If I got run over, I'd like my body to be respectfully pulled off the road, not just ground into the pavement under hundreds of tires. So I head over towards it, only I realize I'd just hit a Great Horned Owl. "Ah shit." I say for the second time.
Then it flutters about.
Well, to say that startled me was an understatement, but as I picked it up, it looked surprisingly fine. No blood. no broken bones, no gore, but it did have a cloudy eye. Knowing it was a sight hunter, I knew it needed help. However, I didn't know of any 24hour vets that were open that would take 'Exotics.' (though they are native to the area) So... I had to take him home for the night.
Then, as I got near my highway exit, it must have been the healing power of the BeeGees, but my feathery friend suddenly became MUCH more alert and active. It also made me very happy that I had a hat and sunglasses in the car, because it somehow decided that perching on my head and then my shoulder like a pirate parrot, was the thing to do. And there's no way I'm doing anything with my eyes unprotected against those talons. Though driving with sunglasses at night was interesting, to say the least. I also learned that those talons will go right through any cloth hat. Ow. Still, the poor thing needed help that would have to be given in the morning. So, for the night, I kept a full grown Great Horned Owl in my car with the windows cracked a bit.
In the morning, in addition to some presents left on my seats which I had to clean up, he gave me that same death-glare that he had given me the night before... And I still had to drive all the way across town to a wildlife rehabilitation and sanctuary! I can only imagine the looks I got from other drivers as they saw me driving along with a massive GHO perched on my shoulder like a parrot! XD
After getting him (painfully) to the sanctuary, I was later informed that the eye had been damaged long before the collision with my car. Essentially, he hit me, not the other way around! He could never be released back into the wild, the damage was permanent. However, he did get a permanent residence at the sanctuary and a new name. Otto. =P
