Hey guys, it's pretty much the last review for the month. With all the insanity going on with the CV spreading, I got a little bit of cabin fever in a way. Regardless, the reviews continue! This be the last one however for this month since the club only had 4 blends for me to snag. Finally the last one, The Last Rites.
BLTC The Last Rites Robusto:
Wrapper: Ecuadorian Habano Maduro
Binder: Honduran
Filler: Honduran, Nicaraguan
Pre-Light/Construction:
From glace view while holding it in my hand, the premise was like a dark and more sinister version of the Royalty. The Band was more of an ancient stone relic you would eventually uncover. Like a remnant of a lost world. Gave it a dreary look especially with the black bg instead of white. The wrapper itself was nice with a good coat of oil to give off that shine. The feel was firm, but a bit rough on some angles. Well constructed however. There was a smooth oaky note and pepper scent coming off of it. Veins and seems were medium in presentation, but overall well constructed and rolled all in all for a box press.
The Burn Part 1:
The first few puffs were medium in black pepper, but the main note that was making a bigger appearance was a vast amount of chocolate notes. Between semi-sweet and dark in tone. Sort of a balance I haven't tasted in awhile. The black pepper notes were at a balanced level, so it gave a nice sweet and spicy combo to end the day pretty much. Was out in the cabana with my dad for a bit watching the new when all of a sudden the wind was beginning to become more and more annoying. I eventually went into the garage and watched some youtube series to pass the time. Near the end of the first 3rd, the main note leading the race was still the chocolate.
The Burn Part 2:
As the stick goes down, some more natural notes start to come in to blend in with both the pepper and chocolate. Earthy, natural tobacco and oaky notes. It was at this point where the prime state of the cigar itself was present. That and I had a glass of scotch. Mainly a smooth tone atm. Draw was just on the right flow. So far still medium, but near leaning on full body.
The Burn Final:
As the stick was nearing it's end, I eventually had to purge to clear things up. Mainly was glad no wind or breeze was messing up my taste. Some notes came strong and some leave just as they came, but mainly the rest of the notes including the oak, natural tobacco, and earthy notes stayed in the same level, but had a different taste from the retro-hale.Mainly it was the chocolate and pepper notes reigning supreme. As the last few puffs came, it was surprisingly the pepper notes that finished just a smidge ahead of the chocolate. That was a shocker. Eventually with the last puff done, I jotted it out in the grass.
Verdict:
Mainly a stick that goes well with either a glass of wine, a sweet whiskey, rum, or cup of coffee. Something that ends a good day. I'd say grab a few and save them for a special occasion.
Next Month: Lunatic
See you guys then and stay safe!
