The Shapes Within a Hand
This piece of work is actually part of my coursework for my art course in college. The purpose behind the pieces is to show change, whether it's turning an object into another, making the form larger/smaller than it's original, changing the colours etc.
I thought about what I can do. I thought what can change the most, and the answer came to me as people. People change constantly, whether by growing older, their attitudes on life, etc.
I took it a bit further and thought what is the most common form of change in a person, rather than their face, the size of the person. Then a thought popped into my head, "Actions speak louder than words". That made me think about hands, hands can show and empathise so many emotions. They also start off small, grow larger, then begin to wear away.
So I decided to base this line of coursework on hands. For this particular piece, all the hands were taken from secondry research (aka, a google image search)
For this piece, we were researching artists such as Picasso during his Cubism period. Drawing the shapes that make up an object etc. I decided to take that idea and convey it with my theme of hands. I decided to only do half the hand to empathise on the change. The piece was first taken from a photograph of a class member, then drawn into my sketchbook.
Feel free to critique me and such, I decided to take this route to improve on hands too!
