My first, and so far, only scratchboard commission. I have done personal scratchboard pieces before.
Scratchboard is my favorite medium. Every line has to be precise and adds to the overall picture. You have to be deliberate.
With colored scratchboard you can vary your pressure and cut the board under the color layer for highlighting.
Scratchboard takes well to watercolor and markers. Though you must blot the watercolor with a towel, otherwise you will lose your details.
This was a commission of a Chinese Water Deer (these deer have tusks instead of antlers) female, meditating under a cherry tree holding a sword in monk robes. Much of the details were left up to me. I can't really say how many hours went into this, just that it took several days to complete.
