Just an idea I keep revisiting, where Jareth has a spell cast on him that either transforms him, or reveals his inner self, depending on how you want to interpret it. I personally like the idea that he uses a glamour, in proper Fae fashion, to make himself more desirable and mysterious but deep down he's a goblin just like the rest of em. An uncommonly pretty goblin, but a goblin nonetheless.
