I thought I do something different other than just posting a boring journal.
I am honestly a bit freaked out, actually I am mildly wound up but still, I watched ONE video about Marvel's New Warriors because it looks so, stupid, which causes youtube to think "oh, you like this subject so here, let's flood your entire feed with these bastards", recently so many of them are declaring the old style American comic industry had utterly collapsed and doom and gloom.
I just want to know if it's actually true, did a massive amount comic book store call it quits or is it just hyperbolic bullshit these channels are known for?

Pretty certain it's not going well.
I mean, Comic Sales are Dropping, especially after the creation of such comics, mostly to do with how a lot of fans just aren't sticking around to read such rubbish.
IDW is actually planning on Abandoning Comic Sonic, because it's not doing very well at all, especially with the Zombot Arc that went on for too long.
The Industry isn't not on its Deathbed just yet, but it's certainly not looking good either. There's still hope, even though it's a flickering ember.

Yeah, that sounds about right. Thing is for me the books I picked up full price as a kid were always non-big 2, Archie's Sonic the Hedgehog, TMNT adventures, Usagi Yojimbo, Spawn, The Darkness, Crimson, Cracked (not a comic but still). Marvel and DC never could get me to part with my money because they seem to shove their garbage front and center, with full multi-issues per month storylines spanning at least five or six titles at once while keeping the self contained "good stuff" in the warehouse somewhere until they hit the dollar boxes, "you don't need that issue of Hellblazer from our Vertigo imprint, have our six tie ins for our Bloodlines event" or at least that's how it feels.
I had a point when I started writing this but I can't remember it now, maybe it was how the big 2 seems to treat their fans as money udders to be milked dry? I don't know.
Upside is there is way, way more ways to get comics nowadays and a ton more ways to support artists we do like so that's a positive.
As for IDW canceling Sonic, it's ashamed but I knew that would happen and to be honest I did get the free comic book day issue, and while I did enjoy it I could not really see myself shelling out 3 to 4 dollars monthly for it.

There's a store downtown called Rubber Chicken Comics, and I have no idea how they stay in business since it's a horrible location and they don't sell stuff on their web site. Maybe they sell via online auctions. I haven't been in there for years, but they apparently have a lot of comic-related toys like figurines and models. All of the comics are superhero stuff, though the models are mostly sci-fi and they had a few few Japanese imports. Political messages are getting into all our media, so if movies are anything to go by, I'd assume comics are the same. It's all boring stuff I don't like, so I don't really care.
As for comic sales, didn't they already tank 20 years ago? I recall almost all the dedicated comic stores (like those in malls) closed at the end of the 90's. I can't even remember when Newbury Comics actually sold anything other than T-shirts and crap.

I know, there is two that I know of here in Baltimore, and I pretty sure one of them just closed up. Well, maybe, they pulled the "going out of business sale" trick a few times before...
I notice comic shops are more geared towards tat like statues, imports, t-shirts and things like that because actual comic sales are in the tanks. Hell the reason I went to my comic shop because they had dirt cheap OG Xbox games, usually five to ten dollars, and dice sets I would pick those up during their sales. The last comic series I picked up was Unnatural, which was actually hard to get because they almost sold out of each time I came in, nothing else interest me as ether the art work screamed traced for realism sake or so loose they are examples of a Jackson Pollock painting down with inks. Their stories were not much better, it felt like they were trapped in this holy trinity of Superhero, Gritty Crime drama and Torture porn "horror" with a thick (multi) layer(s) of politics running through each and every one of them.
Which is weird because I love comics, and for some reason I found the good comics in the strangest places like overseas in France, Italy and Belgium along with manga, webcomics and actual comics I find from my library.
It's weird, I found comic book fans in the weirdest places like a hardware store, the grocery stores and the library but rarely, and I do mean rarely, meet them in the stores themselves.
And yeah, comics did tank years ago, I haven't been in a truly "pure" comic book store in years, and I do mean "years". Of course it was caused by the exact same problem we have now, high prices spread across several dozen titles per month just for ONE storyline instead of ether releasing it in one book or keeping it to the a single title over months, trouble reigning in the political views, editors getting in the way, constantly trying to tie each and every separate book into one singular continuity no matter how much problems it causes, and constantly "rebooting" everything to gain new readers but only to cause more confusion in the long run.
