Jacob Hawkins Jr joins the Paddock at the Australian GP
During the past weekend, The Furmula One Circus came to Melbourne for the Australian GP. While most people were focused on who would take home the first win of the season and which teams would come out of the gates with good results. We focused on one of the visitors to the Panther Paddock over the weekend, Melbourne Captain Jacob Hawkins Jr.
After Melbourne won big on Thursday Night against East Sydney, The team list was off for the weekend and could focus on other things before heading back to the team on Monday. While some spent time around the town and others spent the weekend resting for Round 3, Jacob would head to the Australian GP as he has done for most years of his life. Ever since he was an infant when his father took him to the final Australian GP in Adelaide, Jacob has been going to the Australian GP and has grown an appreciation for Furmula One.
While he was expecting to be going as just a normal patron, Thanks to a promotion the club did with the Panther F1 team during the week by inviting Drivers Drew Fawkes and Natasya Maksimov to the team’s Final Training Session before Thursday Night’s game. The Panther F1 team surprised Jacob with a Paddock Pass with the team for the Race Weekend. Jacob was over the moon with the surprise and was very happy to join the team for the race weekend.
Kit Fox (Panther Team Owner): It's nice to have a team leader be the one to be invited to a paddock area, it helps to interweave the relationships of teams and sports.
While at the Training Session, Drew Fawkes and Natasya Maksimov were given a taste of Australian Football and were asked about their thoughts.
Drew: I wasn't even aware this sport existed. It's not really played anywhere besides Australia, so it was very easy to miss out on it. Looks like a mix of rugby and quidditch from Barry Otter. *chuckles*
Natasya: It’s a very weird game. I don’t know if I’ll be following it from here on out. *laughs*
While the Hammerheads had a good weekend, The same couldn’t really be said about Panther. They ended up finishing outside the points with Drew Fawkes finishing in 14th and Natasya Maksimov failing to finish the race after an incident with her former teammate at Kraner, Vasta Magnussen. While the race was not great for the team. They enjoyed Jacob Hawkins Jr’s company in the paddock and felt he was quite encouraging to the team throughout the weekend.
Kumori Urufu (Drew’s Race Engineer): To see someone from another pro sport at a sporting event that isn't their own sport is always a nice sight.
Drew: Jacob was fun to be around, and he is supportive too. I felt bad for not doing well in the race, but he helped me when I got back to the garage. That's what makes a great leader.
*whispers* Next time he's around, you should bring stools for everyone else. *chuckles*
Kit: The team here is like one big family, and it was nice to have a guy like Jacob be here through the weekend and help encourage the team.
Natasya: I didn’t spend much time with the football guy but he was pretty nice to me when we did talk for the few times we did talk to each other. He seems ok.
While Jacob is unlikely to be touring with the team or joining the Furmula One Circus anytime soon, It’s certain that the big fur enjoyed his time in the Furmula One Paddock.
