I can't believe the co-creator of the best comic books series ever left us this week. Astérix forged a big part of my humor and my love for slapstick, puns and comics. And how Uderzo's art style was unique and both beautiful and funny, both detailled and cartoony. At least, at last, he joined his friend Goscinny

It's such a big loss! I wrote a journal (on dA) about his loss, right the same day I got the information about his death. I'm soooo sad :((((
Actually I pretty well know Asterix, too. Asterix and Obelix were a big part of my childhood! <3 I still have most of the comics and read all of them. Sometimes I come back to some, it's a great time to come back to these jokes, funny puns and of course the pictures! (Personally I love Goscinny's writing style, my fav books are also Petit Nicolas, comics Umpah Pah, Lucky Luke, Isnogoud).
But to be honest I didn't enjoy the last Asterix comics made by different authors (if I'm right, Uderzo wasn't illustrating Asterix for some longer years, right?). Like Asterix and the Picts. For me it has a poor scenario, story goes inconsequently, and the jokes are NOT funny.
Also to be honest Uderzo wasn't that good screenwriter as Goscinny was. I mean when Uderzo was making the comics by his own, after Goscinny's death. I think the worst comic is 'When the sky falls down on heads' (I don't remember full title) - when Asterix meets Disney-like aliens. I was like... WHA? REALLY?
I also heard Uderzo had an argue with his daughter about his author rights and Asterix legacy. I don't know how did it all went.
But summing up, I'll always looooove Uderzo's drawing style. Great lines, great appearance of different characters (I also loved caricaturies of some French actors etc.), and of course - great realisic-like drawings of ancient buildings.
What's your opinion?

I agree a lot with all of those, Goscinny was a god of writing and humor, Uderzo was only good at drawing (but very very good at it, as you said great caricatures, expressions and buildings). However although Astérix et les Pictes was indeed meh, the new authors did much better the next times, I feel like this one was like a draft, a training. The latest for now (Vercingetorix's daughter) is just "okay" and too simple but the 2 between these 2 volumes are hilarious and very witty, feel like it was Goscinny. Give them a look !
It's funny to see even you not French know so many French comics ^^ I feared translated all the puns and jokes would ve destroyed lol

What are the titles of comics after Vercingetorix Daughter? Haven't read them yet.
Well yeah! We do have a lot of French comics translated into Polish for a long time! I guess Asterix was very first, now in like beginning for year 2000 and up has appeared Umpah Pah and the latest episodes of Lucky Luke. I know it's very late comparing to what time the comics were released in France (it's like 20-30 years lol), but some of the mentioned are translated to Polish just now (I guess previously we had no bigger interests as consumers in more French comics/continuations).
If your talking about translation, some of the jokes are REALLY hard to translate, since they often refer to French culture etc., and it was very hard for Asterixs translator especially (well this lady was the first in Poland, lol). But she did so well!
Btw it's because of Asterix I learnt so many Latin proverbs and sentences!
