Tovi...
This wasn't supposed to happen.
Barloc had never thought that he could create life from the magic of wind and air and here he was, watching the little latex creature wobble around on all fours, the wind seal he'd stuck to the balloon animal holding nice and snug where it had been placed. It was an accident, a simple testing of his power's capabilities. He'd never expected for this to really work as well as it had. But this creature, it was small and frail, a horrible life to live if this balloon creature were to get harmed. He'd tried to think it over, deciding at first that this was not a good idea.
"I cannot keep you alive.."
Barloc told the little balloon dog that had been splayed out across his table. The dog looked up to him, ears perked up and all of its attention now on him. the Leviathan signed, big hands reaching out. One held the other's head to keep him steady, the other, tugging lightly at the balloon animal's knot on his nose.
"You know why i'm doing this, right? Why would I let a creature with a hide as frail as your continue living in a place filled with sharp edges and rough corners? I....it wouldn't be right of me, is what it is."
He spoke to the dog, but it was mostly to himself, a reassurance that what he was doing was only for the best. He began to fiddle with the knot, the little dog whining and whimpering, trying to pull its head away little by little. Barloc kept his grip, firm but not too tight, getting the knot loosened.
"I--I'm doing this for you, little one. I know it's scary, but.....It will be over soon."
His words held false confidence in them, watching as the dog whimpered to him, but as air slowly hissed out, he could feel the balloon animal nestle its head against his hand that held its head in place. Those big, round eyes looked up to him, a silent plea to live, before it faded into a more exhausted tone the more air that was slowly let out. He fought against his emotions, his brain and his heart fighting it out deep inside him for dominance over the situation. But his heart had won, those soft, sad eyes and that gentle whine and nuzzle into his palm had the beastly man halting in his tracks. He sighed, shaking his lowered head and pausing for a moment before kneeling down so that he was eye level to the withering dog, scooting it closer to him so that his lips could wrap tenderly around that knot, puffing air slowly, carefully back into the dog. Its form perked up immediately, Once it was full enough, he'd tied the knot tightly in place before pulling back, huffing in annoyance. Oh how his morals betrayed him, his heart siding over his mind. The balloon animal's tail wagged furiously, looking as chipper as it had been before, before it nearly jumped into Barloc's arms, the Leviathan struggling to take hold of the fragile creature.
"H--Hey--!"
The balloon dog squeaked, pudgy face nestled into his chest fur, The beast signing loudly. What had he done?
"...Alright, you get this one chance, but I will not save you if you end up doing something stupid, alright?"
.....
It had only been a week since Tovi was created.
But Barloc didn't keep track, didn't need to. He spent his days now cuddling up to his new air filled companion inside his hillside home, warm, safe, happy. Tovi the balloon dog had never meant to exist, and now....Barloc was glad he'd decided to keep him around. He'd needed a friend more than ever now, and Tovi was that friend he'd so desperately needed.
I was in the mood to write today! Also someone take my tablet pen away from me, I keep giving buff dudes air filled friends and companions. I just can't help it! And it fits well with Barloc and his abilities. Work with wind and air? Why not have an air filled companion? I had to write in a little backstory for the two as well. Barloc is a bit of a hermit, and prefers being alone, but it seems Tovi here might have stolen his heart....Let's hope they last!
