Hey guys! I hope you're all doing very well and staying safe these days. I've been working on this picture all day, each detail was done by hand traditionally so comments would be super appreciated! It's based on a short story written by fox_of_roses on Instagram which you can read below:
She huffed lightly, gazing at her desk, various clay pots filled with dye, paint and pigment lay strewn across her work space. She looked back at the doll she was painting, a small human child, as told in the legends. Her people loved these little crafts of hers, she’s the only one who had come that close to the ancient people. The gem in her head swirled with emotion, as she gazed at her work, taking the carefully made brush in her paws and drawing little details on the dolls face, giving it a mirthful smile and bright eyes. She grabbed another brush of warm adhesive from a pot near the fire, stirring it about and wiping the excess on the side, before she applied it to the doll, and then put on the fur, thanking nature for the animal that had given up its life for her use. Lastly she picked up a crystal from one of her shelves and gently chipped off a bit with her tools and placed it on the forehead of the doll. She touched it with her finger. There was a fleeting second of displacement but then she waved her hand and the doll moved, imitating the motions of a human. She touched the crystal again and the doll collapsed in a heap, her control over it lost.
She smiled to herself her work temporarily done. She let out a breath and stretched out, her slightly iridescent green fur catching the light from the fire, as a cool breeze wafted inside of her den. Her ears flicked reflexively before she looked around reminding herself that she was home. A bed made of wood, leaves and interwoven crystals was in the corner. Atop of it was several of her dolls, and several old dolls, covered in fur of animals no longer alive, relics of the old civilization. She walked over, her paws barely touching the ground, grabbing her favorite and giving it a gentle hug, trying to read all the history of it, as she felt its warm fur against her.
All of a sudden the door to her den flung open and several little children were there all calling for her.
“Miss Aura! Come play with us!”
She turned around in surprise and looked at them, her gem reactions to her rapid emotions, before settling on a soothing deep blue color.
“Okay give me a moment and I’ll be out…”
She placed the stuffed animal back on her bed, and walked over to her work desk again, and grabbed the new doll she had just made
“I have a new doll to show everybody…”
She gracefully turned towards the door, her paws barely making an impact on the ground as she walked, her delicate white dress fluttering in the breeze.
She placed the doll on the ground, touching its crystal to link with hers again, and started making the doll dance around and act for all of the children, they watched with wide eyed expressions, laughing and giggling at her art.
