Experimenting a bit with mixed techniques, and an under-utilized blending brush I made a while ago (originally made it for more smoothly rendering metalic surfaces, but it seems to work well in other situations, too!).
The "mixed techniques" in this case revolves around re-acquinting myself with lines. I've been a painter for so long that my sense of volume & shape has become firmly anchored to silhouettes; lines are effectively the opposite, focusing on an outline of key areas, rather than a "volume-space" that painters & sculptors rely on.
So, I am taking everything I already know and have learned via painting, and applying it to lines & linework, while finding ways to integrate the two. :)
