Edit: I take the trouble to make this work in both themes as a transparent PNG, and FA resizes it as a jpg. Bah.

Have you tried going into Edit and resubmitting the file (and perhaps the thumbnails as well)? It works most of the time.

Tried, but no joy. Thanks for the suggestion though.

I think profile pictures are treated as if they're gallery image previews - so they're automatically resized to a maximum width/height of 300px and saved in the most flexible format, which is the jpg.

Pffff- Fair enough, I guess.

I hope the computer powers that be are working on some middle way between JPEG's compression ratio and PNG's support for alpha (and even GIF multiframe, even).
