Ah. Yeah, that can be tough. Though, at those times, I generally think of what makes the most, practical sense based on the subject matter, and then I try to find a color scheme for it that not only pleases my eye, but also fits the piece. Of course, this might seem like obvious advice to you, so, sorry if it seems repetitive. ^^;;;
