I tried to watch Evangelion: You are (not) Alone because for a long time I was heavy into Evangelion during the first time around and hearing how great it was, it was this wondrous, a genre changer, the watchmen for mecha anime.
I found it just like the first time around had cool bits but oh so boring in the long run, no no, I hate it back, I found it frustrating and at times insulting.
Thing is with time, experience and lots of writing I come to figure out what always felt off to me in the original series and so many deconstructionist media besides the fiction is bad, evil destructive tool for losers that ruins lives but don't stop buying my merch losers and keep me employed kind of junk that always crops up in every kind of form of Anti-escapism Aesop fiction.
The loser paradox.
Where there's a boss, somebody powerful, large and in charge of this organization, group or guild and they just keep on picking pathetic personified over and over again, only to constantly have said character constantly whine about "no, I don't want to" and refuse the call to be a hero which results in hundreds dead, buildings destroyed while there could be other heroes that can save the day with a bit of training.
It's like looking over hundreds of talents people to play in the band, and your producer keeps insisting on hiring Mike Love as front man, song writer and co-producer.
