Sucks that it got cancelled (or technically speaking, postponed for a year) but as you point out it's not like they could have done otherwise.
I'm still hoping that Anthrocon in Pittsburgh won't be cancelled this year; so far they aren't planning on cancelling it but that could change depending on what the situation looks like by July. If that happens I could still get a refund on attendance (though I may just let them keep it and use it to attend in 2021) and on my hotel. My airline tickets aren't refundable though; Southwest Airlines would credit what I paid for the tickets for air travel I could buy for up to a year after I bought the tickets (so up to February 2021). Really I'm just hoping it will have blown over by then and they won't need to cancel. A lot can happen between now and July, so who knows.
Right now I'm effectively stuck in my own apartment as my work is on hiatus and just about everything is closed or extremely limited. I effectively can't even go to my parents' house because my mother (68 years old and with a weakened immune system) is considered "high risk" for the disease and thus needs to limit her contact with others. I'm bored out of my mind to be honest, but what can you do.
I'm not speaking out against reasonable precautions of course but I can't help but think that many are overreacting. It's just frustrating to me personally; I've never had a disease negatively impact me this much without even getting it. In the end I don't think this will end up as bad as some seem to think it will be. Statistically more people will end up dying in car accidents, but you don't see anyone trying to suspend all driving.
But well, what can you do I guess. Everyone be careful out there.
