What's bad is the newest new math. I've been told that even if you get the right answer and you can prove you know how to get the right answer, you don't get credit if you don't follow some damn fool way of arriving at the answer. I say go back to teaching math the way my grandparents, parents and I learned math. 1 + 1 = 2, 1 - 1 = 0, 1 X 1 = 1, 1/1 = 1. Simple. No need to explain why it's right or how you got the answer.
