Giant Burrow Lizards [Creature Design]
Giant burrow lizards are the biggest high-dwelling animals in the mountain chains of the desert. Long, stabilised claws and impenetrable scales on arms and legs make them excellent diggers. A family of these giants can dig up entire tunnel systems in the mountains and through their shire size, they fear no natural predator (at least not in their usual habitat). Thanks to their exclusively herbal diet, they are very calm and curious creatures, thus making domestication easy.
The desert people, made use of that to traverse through the rockiest and bumpiest parts of the mountains. Lizards would travel ahead of herds of goats and cattle to scoop away big rocks and boulders and always had valuable goods and resources stashed on their backs to keep them secure.
However, they got one downside: Even though their main diet consists of grass and juicy cactus plants, whenever they catch the scent of a fruit tree or berry bush, they can't help themselves but head out to find the snack as there's noting better to them than the sweetness of such treats.
