Some of you have likely seen this already from a sneaky person who preempted me in posting it (I just keep forgetting to get around to uploading it!). This was a quick Christmas gift painting done last year for a special someone.
The idea was going for a mix of classic portrait paintings and early photographs (I used to collect old photos I would pick up at antique stores..I rather like to think of the stories the people in the pictures may have told me and the stories the pictures themselves tell. It's always somewhat sad to me to see pictures in antique stores..to think someone did not care enough to keep those people's memories alive. That's likely why I buy them up and though I don't know their real stories, I'd like to think their memory is still alive because someone cares enough to hold on to their picture)

You know, I think the thing I like best about this is that I can SEE his real life features mixed with Bagheera's in this piece...especially in the face. It's like seeing Kim's eyes and Kim's cheeks but them mixed with Baggy's muzzle and other features. I think that makes it so much more beauitful, because you can see both sides of him, and how well you know them, as well as the soul singing from within.
Beautiful portrait! A very nice range of values and some marvelous details on his clothing.
A couple of my relatives have large stashes of old pictures from many decades back that were never labeled or organized, so we no longer know who is who in the photographs. As you said, it's interesting to look through them and figure out what stories the people in them might have to tell - even more so when you know you're related to the person somehow but aren't quite sure of the details. :)

I rather like that sort of thinking you got there. I've honestly never looked at it that way myself, but I like the view point. With that kind of emotion and connections you'd likely make a hell of a photographer.
I'd also like to say that this picture is very good as well. gotta love them gentlemanly felines :P this didn't happen to go to Bagheera did it?

aww, looks like intricate pencilworks. I caught myself wondering how you did it... digital, soso.
you picked a great reference, sophisticated gentleman is spohisticated indeed. he looks not afraid to grab a tool or a gun to get things done, yet he can be as high-up as any other lord in the parliaments.
I can understand you with those old photographs. I wished I could afford them myself, but all I can get are occasional ancient steel/copper rpints and lithos of animals from all over the world... the oldest was dated 1735. :)
there was that book with erotic photographs old and new, beginning with late 19th century. there are some pretty pictures to be used in that book. :)
I guess you're looking for old postcards, too? there can be awesome pistures hidden within them stacks at flea markets. :)

What a great and interesting hobby and motivation to get the pictures from them. I can understand what you mean. I is sad to see that the pictures are placed there and not at the families homes, where the belong to. You did a brilliant job on this gift for Bagheera. The spirit of the century, you wanted to capture lives within it. The clothes here are elegant and kind of fancy, just like the ones that you should wear when taking a picture like that. The design is wonderful and fits Bagheeras natural, noble appearance pretty well. Great one^^ I love it.
