故事：古代森林時常發生自然大火，因此海龍王創造了一隻守護自然的神獸「敖猆」來預防森林大火。敖猆通常會運用自身的翅膀在天空中巡視地面上的狀況，夜晚降臨時，會用身上的燈籠在夜裡巡視，並且會使用發亮的後腳，來為在夜裡迷路的動物們引導出正確方向。
傳說中敖猆會在新年期間，降臨至附近的村落給予祝福，傳聞中只要能只要能看見敖猆一次，那一輩子將會很順利。
